Hi! I am an Italian high school student so I'll try to answer, because it is not really an easy question. The accent is super different in any region you go to, however in the South they generally have a "funniest" and more pleasant accent in a way, and also their dialect is very different from the proper Italian language. But the perception of accents really depends, e.g. I'm from the north and if I hear someone from the south speaking I don't understand anything if they're using dialect. I don't like the accent from my area either but for example I completely love the accent/dialect from Tuscany. So it can vary a lot but I guess that especially for non-Italian speakers southern accents sound nicer and also more "characteristic".
