Does anyone know if there is anywhere to get jobs outside of Lancaster University between there and the town centre? Any small shops, cafes etc?

Hi - sorry you haven't had a response to this yet. I'm just going to bump the thread in the hope that someone sees this and can help

    Why do I do this?

The Universities forums get a lot of questions that are unanswered. This is often because the OP's thread got missed - bumping threads gives them another lease of life and frequently results in someone seeing it and being able to respond

If you would like to help with unanswered questions check out the first part of the list here and don't forget the second part of the list here.

Or if you have questions, get in touch with Puddles the Monkey.

The university publishes it's own on campus roles at https://temps.lancaster-university.c...h-results.aspx the vast majority are temporary places but occasionally more permanent stuff comes up, usually these tend to be aimed more at later years or even graduates though.

There's also lots of studies going on around campus and it is relatively easy to get onto one. Note that they usually pay in Amazon vouchers (I've been hold this is so you aren't an employee and don't get any workers rights out of it but don't know the legality).

With regard to other areas around the university. Its mostly fields and farms. There are more job opportunities in the city centre its self. There's a large Booths supermarket nearby in Hala which could be worth a shot. Otherwise there are small independent shops along the road into the city centre.

Personally I did a handful of studies, temporary work and sold stuff from the on campus charity shop on Ebay for a few days and was fine with this. The people I know own who had more permanent part time roles where all in the city centre. The opportunities for long term part time work for undergraduates on or near campus are few and far between as they are mostly in the larger retail supermarkets or restaurants in the city centre, these jobs become more practical if your living off campus.
