Econ 3 year course or 4 year course

Whats the difference between doing a 4 year MA econ course (at heriot watt) and doing a 3 year course BA course in England. Is it worth spending an extra year?

Scottish courses tend to be a year longer because most pupils finish their Scottish education a year earlier than in England and the 1st year is more like a foundation. If you have the grades you might be able to start in Year 2.

There's no difference academically between this type of Scottish MA and an English BA.

Great to hear that you're thinking of joining us here at Heriot-Watt!

As Doonesbury says (thanks, Doonesbury!), there's no difference academically and you may have the option of starting in year 2.

Depending on what your A-Level results are, you could enter at year 2. You can still experience all the fun of being a fresher, your accommodation is guaranteed (if you apply by 22nd Aug) and you complete your degree in three years. If you do enter at year 1, you will be able to get a foundation bursary which means that you pay the same tuition fees as you would for a three year degree. Are you applying through Clearing? In the Guardian University League Tables 2018, Economics at Heriot-Watt was ranked 1st in Scotland and 3rd in the UK (behind only Oxford and Cambridge). Our Economics degree structure is flexible so you can decide to specialise entirely in Economics or you could add Accountancy, Business Law, Business Management, Finance or Marketing. Graduates have gone on to work at places like PwC Consulting, Ernst & Young and the Royal Bank of Scotland.
