Freshers week at SOAS?

Hey there! ^^

Was hoping you lucky lot already at SOAS could give me an incite into what freshers week is like.

I've been reading some stuff on the Internet and they say that it wasn't to good. Consisting of just cultural dancing and poem reading...Is this true or an embellishment?

And if it isn't particularly good is it a reflection on most of the events organized in general.

Thanks

apparently you go bowling and to the movies....ahhh Kings is looking better
Yeh, Freshers Week is crap, tbh.

That is a bit of an exaggeration, but the club nights and such that there are are terrible and poorly organized (oh Soas we <3 you) and there's no exciting variety.

You do get to meet people though, as long as you're in halls, as no-one has anything better to be doing than wandering around meeting people.

Ahh well! I assume people just go 'privatly' organised clubbing etc?

This is going to sound outrageously shallow and possibly stupid, but do people at SOAS go clubbing etc? I know what to expect there, and obviously looking forward to an alternative style of university life, but I'd quite like a balance.

Don't worry, you're not the only one.. I'm sure other people are thinking like us too.

Yeah people at SOAS go clubbing all the time. There are people that go to the mainstream clubs and all the smaller weirder ones as well. There are some mainstream people at SOAS, but there are also a LOT of 'individual' ones...

Fresher's week was absolutely rubbish though. It felt to me like they were just organising stuff for the sake of it and not really putting much effort into it - a venue and a dj, done. We had two fresher's balls, both of which were crappy and they weren't even balls because when they were promoting it they were like 'this is SOAS, don't conform by dressing up', so everyone was there in just jeans and a t shirt. But they just weren't that exciting anyway tbh. They did have bowling but I don't think anyone went to that and they had a quiz night but I think everyone realised very quickly just how boring the fresher's events were so went around organising their own stuff instead. Sorry to put it down like this but don't expect much of fresher's week at SOAS!

I guess we'll all just have to organise some good stuff ourselves. Still, it'll be a laugh.
