Royal Holloway Halls.. count as IN or OUT of London?

You know on the forms for the student loan and grant application.. you say whether you are going to live IN or OUT of London.. so you get a higher rate if you're in london etc..

The royal holloway halls are like on the boundary, i think they count as outside london.. though it is a Uni of london uni and such.. so im wondering if its considered inside or outside? and if it is outside, can you get away with just saying inside?

Geographically I've always thought they counted as out of London. Give the people who actually do the loans a ring though. That'd get you the more comprehensive answer.

thanks

anyone else got any ideas?

WRT getting away with putting inside, I very much doubt it. If it's outside it's outside, you won't be able to swing it!

To me they're out of London as they haven't got a London postcode

Taken off the Student finance website: "Make your selection based on the address of your campus, rather than your university or college itself if this address is different"

(Also, why not ask in the RHUL forum?)

Royal Holloway is def outside of London. It takes 40-45 mins to get to central London. Don't be fooled by the fact its called the University of London.

You aren't going to study geography, are you? It is well outside London and nowhere near the boundary. You could put it down as inside if you were feeling brave and didn't mind being accused of attempted fraud.
its outside of london i'm afraid

In reality, it's fairly far outside of London, but I'm not sure how the SLC themselves define the London area. You could always put it down as a London Uni and then feign ignorance if they call you on it.

the answer isn't really anything to do with geography - it's a campus of the University of London, therefore you get the higher London rates of loan.

Ding! This post takes the award for the worst-informed piece of information ever given out on TSR. As has already been said in this thread, London status is based on the postcode of the university concerned and where the student will be living (and is not anything to do with the word "London" in its name). RHUL's postcode is very firmly in deepest Surrey.

Actually RHUL counts as inside London fees-wise. With halls at no less than 100 quid a week I should certainly think so too.

OP call the student finance people and ask. Just to be on the safe side and the halls are, as goodbloke said, in deepest darkest surrey.

Seeing as RHUL students get the London loan, I wouldn't be so smug if I were you.

what have we here? Ding! you just won your own award!

according to the Royal Holloway finance department - hopefully they're sufficiently well-informed - I'm 100% right, students receive the higher London rates of loan.

"Loan Rates are slightly higher for students living in London (and not in their parental home) to accommodate the higher cost of living there. Your Local Authority (LA) will decide whether you will be entitled to the London loan rates on the basis of the post code of your place of study. If you are unsure whether you come into this category, your LA will be able to advise you."

This - http://www.rhul.ac.uk/For-Students/student-support/financial-counselling/studentloan.html (the table at the bottom) showing you how much you get depending on where you live is just copied from the Student finance direct website. Just because London is first, doesn't mean as a RHUL student you get the London rate.

Word on the RHUL sub-forum is that they get the higher rate, and I assume they would be sufficiently well informed, being RHUL students in receipt of student loans.
Still not convinved as I know for postgrad that if you get AHRC funding, you get the out of London amount.

I have applied for finance this year and I'm getting the exact same amount for my first year as I got for the first year at Goldsmiths.
