Ques for the girls

Please keep anon, or delete, as this embarassing. Sorry if this is a bit graphic.

Basically, I have real problems with tampons, or really, anything, entering my vagina (physically). I've tried relaxing, the breathing exercises, etc, with tampons and although I can get them in, they really hurt and I can feel them when I walk. I'm a virgin, but have been fingered before, and that really hurt too, with the guy saying I'm 'really tight'.

Any idea about what I could do? I was thinking it's vaginimus...is there any way to know for sure without going to a doctor?

Use towels for now. How old are you?
I doubt its Vaginimus. Some people are just born tighter than others, and it takes a few ages to get used to being able to find Tampons comfortable.
I know this probably doesnt sound very reassuring but at least you can get a Tampon in a little way. For some people even thats a difficulty!

Practice keeps prefect, keep trying. I'm sure there are certain excercises you can do for this sort of thing as well. I won't go into it but google should tell you all you need to know.
From the whole feeling it when you're walking issue, it sounds like it's not going far enough.
Try a little bit of Vaseline on the end of it, and push straight up and back?
Could try a bit of lubrication maybe? Might be uncomfy as its difficult to get it in a good position, lubrication could help with that if you are using non applicator ones. If you are using non applicators, have you tried using ones with applicators, they might be a bit easier for you?

Hey OP, I have the same problem as you. It doesn't bother me much though, I just use towels.
Yes, I do agree with the posters above in that you can feel it because you probably haven't pushed it far enough. If you feel uncomfortable then dont repeatedly try as this will only make you more and more tense.
All I can really offer to you in terms of advice is to keep trying really. I'm going to keep persisting, but at the end of the day, tampons aren't for everyone unforutnately :frown:

I second the advice of using applicator tampons. Don't try to use them until you are on your period though cause you will have no luck at all! If you're reall struggling, use some really small ones, dab a bit of vasaline on the end, and just keep trying. You will probabl find it easier, when you are home alone, somewhere where you are comfortable and don't stress about it. If you find that you can't do it...use a pad, take a break and try again after an hour or so. It took me ages to get the hang of it and when you finally manage...you can't work out what was so difficult!
I have the same problem! Find it difficult to walk about with tampons so I just use towels, just means I dont go swimming on a period!

I had the same problem too and then I found that I wasn't putting them in properly. I found it easier on the heaviest day of my period.

I actually prefer non applicator cos I couldn't understand the tubes and decided to just shove it in.
I have tried many, many times to use tampons. I think it's psychological, just knowing they're in me makes me feel ill. So I stick to the tried and tested towels

Thanks for all the replies you guys.

Does anyone who has problems with tampons find that it affected sex? As in that it made sex extremely painful the first time or afterwards?
Perhaps you haven't been putting it in right, or maybe you're just very naturally tight.

Well, I had issues with tampons at first... in the same way that most girls do. You shouldn't be able to feel them and the fact that you can is a sign of it being too low down. Try using applicator tampons (if you don't already) firstly because they're easier to insert (try using some KY Jelly if it's still difficult) and also because they expand length-ways whereas non applicator expand width-ways. Or, if it's still uncomfortable, try the other way around. Women use different brands for this very reason, although tampax applicator are well known for being the most comfortable overall.

I've never had any issues with sex despite the initial few tampon disasters, the first time was pain/blood free. Also, it's quite likely that you were really nervous when "fingered" and not lubricated enough or he tried to insert too many fingers... .... I'm quite sensitive in that respect, they need immaculately clean hands or it can sting and I get quite prone to infection. This means I've to have an insanely high standard of hygiene and have to keep the area hair free.

Anyway, vaginismus is very rare. The problems you're describing are fairly common so don't worry too much or it will affect you when you actually come to having sex, you'll be tense and worrying about the pain. Which, sadly, can cause vaginismus. Relaaax.
Tampons aren't for everybody and I still have problems with them even though I've been having sex for years. Personally I don't mind using pads and if you don't mind them either then not using tampons shouldn't be a problem.

However, if you are really worried there is no shame in going to see your GP. At least then you should get an answer one way or the other.
i have the same problem!
i've just stopped trying, even though my mum gets annoyed cause it means i can't go swimming once a month, annoying.
but whatever, it's just painful, i don't want to put myself through the pain & stress tbh!

Chances are it's a case of using the wrong brand and/or absorbency. Different brands expand in different directions and to different degrees. So, it's just a case of figuring out what's most comfortable. Tampax applicator being most popular and the one most first timers use. Most women just assume that, because all their friends are okay, they just aren't the tampon wearing type without experimenting. It's just not the case at all.

Maybe, but I've tried quite a few times and never really liked it. I think one of the problems I have is that my periods are quite heavy and so I need the bigger sizes which I found harder to insert. I am happy enough using towels so it's no biggie, I just wish we didn't have to have damn periods in the first place! :frown:

Ahaha, preaching to the choir!

Myself is currently sat around in baggy pyjamas with a cup of herbal tea avoiding anything sugary, caffeine ridden and alcoholic. :frown:

lol, guess I am! I was just the same the last few days! At least I'm not having to dope myself up on painkillers now! Hope you're feeling better!!!
when i was younger (around 13/14) i couldn't use tampons no matter HOW much i tried - it just hurt and i could never get them in far enough, i tried tampax & lil-lets with applicators and without - started off with the smallest ones just to see, but still i couldn't get them in to be comfortable.

Left it a couple of years til I was 18 or so, and i use them now, so i guess just leave it a while - and try not to think 'oh my gosh its gonna hurt its gonna hurt' or whatever, just be positive when you try them next time, take a big breath in as you put the tampon in - should help take it in a little further and maybe make it comfortable!
