A black spotted cat is at my door wanting to come in but I can't. I've looked at the light blue collar that the cat is wearing, but it just that. With no name no address. What does it mean? The cat looks like it has been thru something. Is this cat a stray or owned?

If you can get hold of it and transport it safely, take it to a vet. If it's got a collar, it may well have a microchip, so the vets will be able to track down the owners. People don't tend to put tags on cat collars any more, since most pets tend to be microchipped.

It might be a lost cat. Try a facebook group for lost pets in your area - there are often posts on there where people have found cats that they think might be missing.

You probably can't feed it, but could you try seeing if the cat wants any water or something? idk :P

You could take it to the vets so that it can be scanned for a microchip.

Does it look ill / in pain?

Can I ask why you can't bring it inside?

It could be microchipped like our cat and which he does not wear a collar. (Don't worry he's here). Take the cat down to the vets and the vet can scan for a microchip.

You really think so. Never thought of that maybe that why it got no name tag if the cat is still at my door the next morning I'll find the owner

The cat is really friendly so I was able to give it milk and water. No but it's quite thin sort of. It doesn't seem ill/in pain. I'll make an effort to visit the vet. I don't have Facebook but I'll may make a post in the neighbourhood

Is there anything you can do for it tonight? Is there a quiet corner or something near your door where you can encourage him to sleep? Do you have any food like cooked chicken or whatever that you would be willing to give him?

Although you probably won't want to incase he keeps coming back and you can't find the owner :P

Yes - in fact, a lot of cats don't have collars at all unless the owners want some visible signal that the cat isn't a stray (or want to put a bell on the collar to keep the cat from catching birds), but many will be microchipped.

Cats are bosses, you are being trained as a slave. It probably has a nice cosy home a few houses away, that doesn't give it chicken if it rubs around those people's legs and looks cute and unloved. You are being sucked in!

Having said that, the decent thing to do is as suggested above, be kind to it and if it's there tomorrow, when you can, take it to the vet and see if it is micro-chipped. If you find it is, then when it surely turns up again, because you are an obvious sucker for a feline leg rub and produce chicken on demand, you might make another decision about feeding the mangey moggy!
