Politically Incorrect + other QM questions!!!

Hi!

I have an uncondit. offer for law 2008 for QM and want to get some politically incorrect info.

1) What are the girls looks-wise? (I realise it may vary year on year though). In the law school? Girls out n' about? I wouldn't imagine you'd have many pretty pictures in Mile End but I'm sure you commute out.

2) Campus vs intercollegiate halls? Anyone who has had experience with both? Sex life in both? On this 'issue' - campus seems quite small and wouldn't halls be better because you could take girls to your room from all over the UoL and never see them again afterwards. Ahhh...heaven!!! And no I don't have a small penis.

3)I'm by no means a racialist...(I hate racist...sounds like a cist - a box which holds dead people...creepy) but my friends (who are asians) tell me that I'd be one of the few white people around. Hey - I said I wasn't a racialist - I'm possibly going to choose QM over Bristol, one of the whitest unis in existence! According to push.com, QM has 60% ethnic minorities and according to my friends who go there it's closer to 85%! LSE only has 50% and that's reputed to be the most international uni the country! I don't really care because I love asians, (more than whites tbh) but I don't want to be the ethnic minority! So is it as ethnically rich as my friends there tell me? For law?

4) I looked around the campus and saw a bar, cafe, canteen, starbucks - don't these close at 5/6pm? Where can you go afterwards besides the library and level 1? Do the law students 'hang' together and where do they 'hang'? The gym isn't ready yet, is it? - expect it will be as good as UoL gym for instance?

Don't judge me. I hope I don't get - 'you're a racist, male chauvinistic pig, uni is about studying' responses. Just trying to get as much info as I can, (and I do base my uni choice on more than this) - Thanks everyone!

1. From my experience of visiting the university, I'd say it was the same as UCL as girls look-wise but that's subjective. Personally I prefer black girls, and am seeing one currently too. So if that was a strong issue in choosing university I'd choose Goldsmiths, where I once studied oddly enough!

2. I've always favoured intercollegiate Halls the sex life, from what I've had to put up with, is better than collegiate Halls. There was some randy girl near my room and I was very tempted to do an Alf Garnet and get a broom/rod and bang it towards the noise and shout "Will you STFU" hehe.

4. Use the UoL gym, though I've heard from a friend who used to use this site that it wasn't that impressive and the University of Glasgow's was much better, and cheaper.

I'm in my first year. And the girls in my year out number the boys by about 70% to 30%. The girls are ok, but some are quite goody goody, if u know what i mean. But in the second years boys out number girls, so it does vary.

2) Campus vs intercollegiate halls? Anyone who has had experience with both? Sex life in both? On this 'issue' - campus seems quite small and wouldn't halls be better because you could take girls to your room from all over the UoL and never see them again afterwards. Ahhh...heaven!!! Be on campus. It really isnt worth commuting everyday, and u will hate it when u have a 9am lecture.

3)I'm by no means a racialist...(I hate racist...sounds like a cist - a box which holds dead people...creepy) but my friends (who are asians) tell me that I'd be one of the few white people around. lots of ethinic minorities, black, asian, chinese,

No one really goes to starbuks. i would only go if in the morning or when i had a break between lectures. The global villiage is quite cool. I'm sorry to dissapoint you but law people dont hang out together. People form their cliques and that's it. I mean dont get me wrong people are nice enough but there isnt a law crowd. The law society this year has been non existent and so law people dont really have any gathering. But its been taken over, and so it should be better if u decide to go.

Don't judge me. I hope I don't get - 'you're a racist, male chauvinistic pig, uni is about studying' responses. Just trying to get as much info as I can, (and I do base my uni choice on more than this) - Thanks everyone!

Hope that helps please PM me if u have any more questions and good luck
You tend to find that the ethnic minorities tend to clump in only certain subjects- Thats what I have found. Law- Im not sure about this one though ???

I agree with this. My (white) friend does Engineering and says she is very much outnumbered there, whilst it's totally the other way around on my course - German and Linguistics. Though yeah, I don't know anyone who does Law so I can't really answer any of those questions!

~ Of course the girls are hot! I'm one!:p:

~ Be on campus. It's 2 minutes from the Law Building to Student Village and judging by my flatmates (I have a longterm boyfriend so can't speak personally) it hasn't hindered their sex lives at all! There's a lot of flat parties etc so this sort of thing happens ... a lot ...

~ I've never really considered 'where I go to hang out' just wherever I guess ... I think it depends on your circle of friends and living on campus would also play a fair factor in this I'd say.

~ The gym will be great when it's open. It's just the 'when' bit that's a problem.

Thank you for all your posts, you very helpful QM people...

NDGAARONDI : I think I'd better take a 4 year LLB in Glasgow then. I'd then have to convert to English law...but I'm sure the gym would make it worthwhile, (Sarcasm at its best). I think you're mate is jealous because he lives in Scotland. You gave me some solid advice with the halls - I think I will chose them if I decide to go. Thanks for your answer!

Fungirl1234: Great info, thanks. But I think I'll brave the commute. I've walked around Euston a lot recently, and the area is great. The halls have loads of facilities and you meet ppl all over London. There are things to do in Mile End, and it's quick to everything anyway, but I'll be living there in my 2nd +3rd year. I'm taking the experience. It won't be an impediment academically - the Senate House and UCL lib. are right next to halls. Did the commute 35/40 mins door to door. It's not that bad. And I've had enough sleep in my gap year for a lifetime.

I heard about the cliques elsewhere on the forum. Maybe it'll be different in my year, (although I'm your age so it feels a little weird saying that). I know a few ppl who study law there and love it though. Law Society thing is a bit worrying but I'm very competitive about everything so less comp. for 1st year Pres. Vote Rancorous! I'll PM if I think of anything to ask - thanks for offering!

Nasher + Trirarien - thanks! I agree too - it's widely known that ethnics clump together. My secondary school, (not sixth form), was largely ethnic and I noticed that.

You're hot? I don't think we should get to know each other though, you seem like too much of a nice girl for me.

Again thanks for the info!
Plenty of hot women around. Especially on the Drama/English courses. In Drama, there's 100 people studying in the first year, 88 of which are women! Which is fantastic if you happen to be a good looking guy, alas, I have had no such luck.

to be honest you sound like an idiot. exactly the type of person i would hate to share halls with. by all means go somewhere else please.

Well I just looked at a few threads and posts of yours and seems you are an idiot.

And exactly the type of person I want to avoid if I live in a flat because I'd never get away from you.

Good luck on the 2Bs and the C for your exams. Of course, you do have a conditional and could miss out. And then nobody would have to put up with you at all. Shame.

Edit: Hey, nutdave - I can't be bothered to get into an argument. Leave it. If you tell me I'm an idiot - I'm going come after you. And it's just going to go in circles. Seriously - good luck for exams - I really do hope you get where you want and I'm sorry if you think I'm a ****.

1) What are the girls looks-wise? (I realise it may vary year on year though). In the law school? Girls out n' about? I wouldn't imagine you'd have many pretty pictures in Mile End but I'm sure you commute out.

- Personally if that's one of your decisions for going to Uni, you may as well drop out and go do an apprenticeship or something. If your doing law, your looking at SERIOUS work.
- That said, there are plenty of pretty, intellectual and interesting females at QM. Obviously depends on your taste. There are plenty of "pretty pictures" too  ...materialism at its finest..LOL.

2) Campus vs intercollegiate halls? Anyone who has had experience with both? Sex life in both? On this 'issue' - campus seems quite small and wouldn't halls be better because you could take girls to your room from all over the UoL and never see them again afterwards. Ahhh...heaven!!! - Intercollegiate you'll be nearer London, and from what it seems your more interested in the social aspects of University, although you get a more homely close feel at QM.
- Closer to lectures at QM.
- Can't comment on the "sex life" but its slightly dissettling when you need advice and opinions from an internet forum.

3)I'm by no means a racialist...(I hate racist...sounds like a cist - a box which holds dead people...creepy) but my friends (who are asians) tell me that I'd be one of the few white people around. - There are plenty of white people. Law is probably slightly more ethnic minorities, but its not like you won't see a fair few "white" people. Although I struggle to see why that's an issue..everyone's the same..one blood

4) I looked around the campus and saw a bar, cafe, canteen, starbucks - don't these close at 5/6pm? Where can you go afterwards besides the library and level 1? - Yeah they close pretty early. Can't say I've ever really checked the bar out since the first few weeks though.
- There's plenty of pubs nearby, lots of access to clubs etc seeing as you have the 25, and trains nearby to many of the main London locations.
- I can't say law students particularly "hang", although I suppose you could say a lot of them.."hang" in the library ...I probably do things with my non-law friends more than my law friends, but it just depends on who you get close with.
- Gym MAY be ready for next year, no-one knows.

1. Girls across ALL subjects are good looking. My view anyways, especially so for law.

2. Campus more fun.

3. Mainly Asian/Arab, but there is a wide range of different ethnic groupings.

4. Level one, Bar Med, Costa (soon opening), The Curve. Plus C.London is 15mins away if you get bored easily.

Why don't you just come to QM, have a look around and find out for yourself?

People hang out at night in hayfield/wetherspoons/people's flats. When Drapers re-opens in Sept, it will be there.

The Gym is not ready yet, but will also hopefully be ready for Sep 08.

Definately Mile End Campus, its closer, cheaper, (in my opinion the satndard is alot better) and with the Union re-opening on, you won't want to be away from it all.

QM is a very culturally diverse university (and this is one of its advantages), but as other people have said it varies dramatically depending on the subject, English for example is predominately white, 70/30 women to men.

I won't validate your first question with an answer, safe to say it won't make a difference anyway as your arrogance will ensure you repel the women do you meet.

Thanks everyone yet again for the info - I think I've got enough now.

femme fatale - thanks for taking the time to post. I've been to QM a few times, but not on an open day, (because I've been working). I wanted to get more people's opinions on the uni by people who actually go there. Hopefully everything will ready; perfect timing for me really. Hope it hasn't been too bad this year with the construction.

If I choose QM, I'm a little undecided about where to stay, but I may not get a choice anyway! And your last remark was a little harsh but I have to say it was the funniest insult I've received so far. If I had asked and I'd got a hundred posts saying the girls were horrific and something out of the Exorcist, it probably wouldn't have changed my mind where I was going. Why did I ask? I was curious...and like that infamous cat got killed for it. Didn't learn much in history.

Anyway, thanks everyone for the posts which have been helpful, (and others not so helpful). I think I've got a lot of info. And for everyone who is at Queen Mary - good luck with your exams!
