Durham Classics - languages

Hey, just wondering if anyone knows whether or not it's possible to take both beginners Greek and beginners Latin in first year at Durham?

The website is giving very mixed signals as it seems to suggest you can until you click on the module descriptions and then it says that they're mutually exclusive (i.e. in the module description for Latin it has Beginners Greek 1 under "excluded combination of modules").

It would be great if somebody could let me know as I'm starting in October and would really like to study both.

Thanks

I would imagine that you can't, since by nature they involve intensive teaching (usually 4-5 hours per week), whereas most other modules involve a weekly hour-long lecture and seminars/tutorials arranged every so often. Therefore, taking both languages at beginners' level would probably take you over the allowed weekly contact hours.

However, I would certainly suggest taking Latin in 1st year and Greek in 2nd year. Best of luck!

Thank you for the response! I suppose it makes sense that you can only take one beginners module at a time. I probably will take Latin in first year thanks
