The Student Room Group

I just found my hamster dead....:(

im really upset, i guess he was quite old for his breed (well over a year old)

i got a friend to help me put him in a bin bag, as the rubbish is being collected in the morning- i didnt think that was too bad. but i just spoke to my boyfriend and he is really upset that i did that and didnt burry him- its just this is a student house and the garden isent very nice, doesnt have much soil parts and there are loads of cat around here.

I feel really bad now :frown: was it horrible to just throw him away?

I know a girl who put her dog in the wheely bin...bizzare I know. However putting your hammy in one is fine. He has gone to a better place... :littleang

;console; Pets dying always sucks, no matter how little. we had to give ours a Anglo Saxon/Viking burial, because it died in its wheel.
Hamsters die too soon:frown: longer living pets ftw
Aw mate, I'm really sorry :frown:

At least he had a long life (and presumably a happy one)

With regards to getting rid of him, whatever way you choose is fine so long as it's right for you (unless that be keeping him in his cage like nothing happened... that would be weird...)

Get a chinchilla I reckon.
Since when is putting a dead hamster in a binbag a two person job?

You probably did right not burying him. I buried my hamster in a shoebox in the garden. Living in a cat ridden village this perhaps wasn't the best of ideas. I hope you feel better soon, I know how attached people get to their pets.

lol, how would that happen?

And i'm sorry, about your hamster it sucks i know. I know all these 'get a new one' might not solve it, but it'll make you feel better.

Aww im sorry :frown:
Sorry to hear that :frown:

You could take a walk to the local woods or park and bury him there maybe?

When our hamster died a few years ago my mum cremated it on the BBQ and scattered her ashes..
That's what she felt was right.. but I thought she was crazy for it...:/
