The universities with the best social scene

Don't know if a thread like this has been done before but oh well.

I'm not the most intelligent and wouldn't want to go to Uni's where it's all about work, I'd guess somewhere like LSE or Imperial. So what Uni's have really buzzing social scenes as well as being a good university academically?

Manchester, Nottingham

how do you know? what makes you think so?

Big cities, known for good nightlife but still have national and international reputations

Erm, Cardiff. And that's not just bias because I go there. Whenever I tell someone I'm at Cardiff, their first reaction is generally "ooh, Cardiff's meant to be a good night out". Plus the SU arranges many good nights, well so I see from facebook photos anyway as I don't go =P
I've heard Kent has plenty of alcoholics.. not sure if it was from a vyable source though. :ninja:
Ironically, I think you picked two which have really rather poor social scenes (Imperial & LSE) :p:

i just knew it somehow. I knew there was something odd about those two!

Manchester, yes, but I'd definitely disagree with Nottingham. It's a campus based Uni in a leafy suburb, miles from the city centre.

Surely it depends on what you, as the individual, perceive to be a good social scene?

come on a good social scene is a good social scene therefore a good nightlife, alot of student activities, the atmosphere being outgoing etc not somewhere workaholic like Imperial. So what would you reccomend then River???

Well, I hate clubbing, so I wouldn't say that big cities would necessarily offer me a good social life. Durham's a good place for me personally because there's loads of societies to get involved with.
Manchester I'd say

and why would you say that lol? i'm guessing good nightlife?
I believe Leeds got some award or other last year, for being the "best student city".. or so says my friend from Leeds, anyway.

Cardiff has a better night-life than those in most of the cities I've been to.

Nottingham, Newcastle and Leeds sprang to mind.

You sound like a classic Bournemouth candidate.

*Runs from angry drunk Bournemouth kids coming back from their latest Carnage night*

Manchester and Liverpool both have amazing nightlife. Man Met and LJMU might be candidates it you don't want to go somewhere very traditionally academic.
