Sport at SOAS

Hi, I am considering applying to SOAS to study, but am wondering what opportunities there are for women's sport... I've heard its not the best for sport generally, so i'm guessing girls sport is even worse?? any help/personal experiences/vague ideas from a friend of a friend are welcome! thanks!!

um.. yeah, I heard the same but there's tennis courts or something right near by and the uni of London union is near by too (I think) which is better for sports.

I think sports are played out of London. I've heard of the SOAS Warriors which are apparantly the rugby team?

Yeah the warriors are the rugby team. But you are not wrong about sport at SOAS, it is virtually non-existent. We have football, rugby and basketball and that is about as far as it goes. I hardly know any people that do any sport at SOAS, but the London union is practically right next door to SOAS and there is more available there. There is a women's football team and probably basketball, but I'm not sure about rugby.

I think its a little harsh to say that its non-existant.

The main sports teams for women are the football, rugby, basketball and to a lesser extend tennis teams.

The ladies football and rugby teams in particular are particularly active in terms 1 and 2 as far as I know.

Sport in general is slightly harder to get into at SOAS i guess. Its not that its not there, its just not it not as important for most SOAS students compared to other unis.

If you want to play squash, table tennis etc. then some of the intercollegate halls have the facilities. Plus there's ULU which has a badminton team, Taekwondo and Karate, which students from University of London can get involved in. If you join the gym at ULU you've got all the facilities there plus a rather nice swimming pool. Its pretty pricey though at £26 pounds a month, but is reasonable if you use it often.
