going the gp about mental health

Very long story short I have bad mental health and it's took me 4 years to pluck up the courage to go to the doctors soon about it. I was just wondering, if you're 18 do they have to tell your parents about self harm (my mum will be in the waiting room)? What is the likelihood of me being recommended medication due to waiting lists for counselling, and can the doctor diagnose something like anxiety/depression at the initial appointment? Will I be able to just give the doctor a list of everything I feel rather than me saying it all? Sorry if these are stupid questions but I'm really worried about this and I could do with any advice or answers.

I'm not an expert, but I've been on your side of things.

Since you're 18 they don't have the right to tell your parents anything without your permission.

I was recommended medication when really I should have been getting treatment (which I subsequently had as someone referenced me). If they do this and you feel you need counselling/treatment then you should self-reference.

I was diagnosed at my first appointment with a specialist centre, but my GP did say that they thought I had the illness that was diagnosed.

I'm sure a list would be fine. For me, they just asked diagnostic questions which I answered.

I hope everything goes okay for you
