Depends who owns the field.

well what you decribed hardly constitutes a 'rave' ?!

I think it probably is Illegal. You would be trespassing on someone's land.

its illegal. the illegal rave act. cant remember what year it was passed

Well where were thinking of isnt a farmers field so im guessing its like council property.
Theres probably going to be around 30/40ish people plenty of alcohol and not live music its kinda in the middle of nowhere so im hoping noone will care.

I was underexaggerating when i said 'a couple of drops of alcohol' and 'slight noise' so no doesnt sound like a rave but it will be.

Just wondering if anyone knew??

You'd need to obtain written permission from whoever owns the field, and you'd have to leave it in exactly the same state that you found it in. Also, if there are residences nearby, you'd need to get permission from them too.
Just use a house instead, so much easier.

I know people who have done this, and people who have just camped out on random fields with a few mates getting pissed, and the police nearly always turn up and make them leave. If it's somewhere really secluded you could probably get away with it, but what happens if someone gets in a right state/gets injured somehow and needs an ambulance but the ambulance can't get there easily? Sorry to be such a killjoy but it's not the best idea, a lot of stuff could go wrong.

Find out who owns the field and ask them! I once stayed on our local village hall field, had some drinks and a small bonfire.... they still dont know how the field got burnt.... But seriously try and get permission otherwise it is illegal sorry!

We've had a large group (20?) people sitting in a field (one of those play fields by housing areas) not causing any trouble but we got moved on by the police.

Alternatively I spent my 15 and 16year old years in my local park to all hours. The police used to drive around the park, shine their headlights at us (and probably see we were underage, drinking and quite enjoying ourselves) but they would leave us to it. Never got removed from that park.

Ahhhh great times.

It really is down to ownership. Just because it's remote and in the middle of nowhere doesn't mean it belongs to the council or necessarily anyone. It could be a farmers land, it could be public land. The best option for these things is to use private land, where you can pretty much do whatever you want, so long as you don't cause a nuisance. With public land you are in danger of running into many different by-laws and criminal laws. There could be many different laws depending on what public land it is, and where it is.

The legality of such gatherings is generally guided by The Criminal Justice and Public Order Act 1994, which basically stops 'raves'. The police can break up gatherings of 100+ people at which music is being played.

There is a lot more to it than just that, but suffice to say, it's not a good idea to hold parties on public land. The individual fines alone run into thousands of pounds.

That is one of the most ridiculous posts I have ever seen on TSR. It's so so so very wrong.

As said, find out who owns the land. If you don't get permission from them, it's most likely going to be illegal, whether or not you're breaking any number of other laws.

Our raves were almost always with the permission of the landowner - at least, the ones that went off without a problem were. The police would often turn up, but generally leave us be, after telling us to clean up and turn it down a bit (which we did, of course). Yes, other laws were being broken, but moving hundreds of people off of a site in the middle of nowhere, at 5am, in the darkness, with only single track lanes to walk along is far more dangerous than leaving them be til the morning. A few organised by other people have ended in riots and heavy police presence, but those were held on farmers' fields without consent.

My experiences would also suggest it depends where in the country you'll be holding it and how strict your local police are. If they get wind of it while you're organising they may block off the site (or, in one case down south, wait until it's underway then charge in with riot gear).

Good luck, have fun, be safe etc

Does anyone know the laws on camping in a random field?
May be some slight noise and a couple of drops of alcohol, but i've heard some people say its illegal some say its not.......

Ive done this about 30 of us tents a boom box and a field

was a good night, the farmer that owns the field came out to see us at about 12ish when he was doing his last rounds and told us to have a good night and if we needed anything his house was up the hill, the only thing he stipulated was we moved our tents abit just incase the cattle escaped ... that filled us with loads of confidence!

the field was way off of the beaten track and wasnt near any houses

oh the good old times years ago

i think as long as you are discrete you should be fine! just be careful!
