What do you like about Southampton?

Birmingham is better by far, for nightlife, shopping, everything.

Ultimately though, it depends what you're looking for "/
I don't really know much about Southampton, but I've lived in Birmingham all my life and love it here. I live pretty close to the university. I'm used to defending my city on TSR, but I recognise its bad sides as well. Please PM me if you've got any Brum-specific questons, I know all.

Peoples idea of nightlife will vary, not everone likes pubs and people have no reason to criticise others' interests.

Having had no experience of either city then I can't really say. Birmingham perhaps for its music. I feel I would enjoy Southamption more but I have no experience to back that up.

I'm thinking of seeing REM in Southampton in August, may check it out.

Broad St all the way! Risa, Oceana, Revolution, Roccoco, Spin... Though Digbeth has something to offer with the Custard Factory... And then there's Snobs, Panic and Subway City if you're into your indie music, and don't mind a bit of dirt (/piss & drunk people falling over you).

Plus there's loads of night clubs to go to in places other than Birmingham. Tenner taxi fayre to Solihull and you've got Rosies, BarB91, Lloyds Bar, Masons, Opal Lounge, and enough pubs to satisfy anyone's needs

I personally find Broad street far too chavvy for my tastes. The custard factory is good but very expensive, Snobs is ok every now and then I guess, same with panic. I dunno, I've just found far better places in other cities.

(I see you're at KEHS. I go to Camp Hill. Heh)

For nightlife, Birmingham is brilliant. But thats all its brilliant for tbf.
I don't know anything about Southampton.
I live in Birmingham, and i really dislike it as a city. It is very segregated, with areas such as Sparkhill, Sparkbrook, Small Heath, Aston being 85+% non-white, and areas which are somewhat the opposite. Combine that with a lot of people in the city centre, pretty high crime rate, and what is voted one of the worst regional accent in the UK, and you're onto a winner.

For a student lifestyle, i think that Southampton would be by far the better.

Then again, just my personal opinion from my experiences in Brum.
