Boyfriend keeps going on about fake tan

Im not sure if i'm making a mountain out of a molehill here so need some advice! Ive been with my boyfriend for a year. I love him alot and in my eyes, hes perfect. Theres nothing Id change about him physically.

Theres something thats been bothering me though. Im naturally fair skinned (but not ill looking, just quite pale). Recently he keeps asking me to put fake tan on coz its 'sexier' and its making me a bit insecure (my self esteem is not the best anyway!)

Id like to think that he likes me the way I am (or is that just a silly fairytale view lol, i dont know). I said to him jokingly 'oh so would you like it better if i fake tanned and looked brown all the time?' and he was like 'yeah it'd be nice until the summer when maybe you could get a proper tan.'

I feel a bit like hes being superficial by going on about me being tanned. I want him to accept me for the colour i am naturally and not turn me into what he wants me to be. Am I over reacting?

my dad tells my mum this..

then again she is really pale and has just finished cancer treatment, she just looks pale and ill without it. and people comment, ohh, she doesnt look well does she.

i dont think he tells her to put it on to "look sexy" though (god i really hope not!)

i think you should tell your boyfriend that he also looks pretty pale and could do with a bit of fake bake..x

You wear fake tan if he wears mascara because you find it 'sexier'. Fair's fair.

Say to him that its a slippy slope between fake tan and eventually ending up like this:

Show him the pictures and ask him if he wants you to look like that...... Lets hope it puts him off completely.

Good Lord! I was going to say (on purpose) slap it on to look like the above ^, and it will look so bad he will soon go off the idea! (ie. the old parental "smoke the whole packet" trick with cigarettes). Sort of, reverse psychology. So, yeah, maybe aim for the above look, and act disingenuous when he (hopefully) proclaims it wasn't exactly the look he was imagining.

Anyway, no, you're not being too unrealistic to think he should like you as you are. Bloody pedant. Is he fake tanned? If so, tell him he looks like an orange and u find it unattractive, in which case you're both sort of equal. and if he is pale too, then he should bloody do it as well. if you happy with the colour of your skin, don't bother changing it to please someone else! tough **** on their part if they're that arsed about it.

Or you could get a smattering of colour in a manner which doesn't start a panic over invasions from outer space...

As long as your natural complexion is never pasted over by ill advised products, you should be fine. Even ensuring that you are outside regularly and for a bit longer should show through. Maybe he just wants to be helpful :smile:

I would be annoyed if someone suggested I put on fake tan! I'm pale as well, not ill-looking or translucent but normal, healthy ivory coloured...and I like it. Skin colour is such a key part of someone, and also something you can't really change, so I think it's a bit much expecting you to alter the way you look just because he prefers it.

Just take care of yourself, look how you want to look, and tell him to bugger off. :wink:

i don't know how people can constantly maintain fake tan. mine goes all patchy and i can't be arsed putting it on more than once every 3 weeks. tell him if he pays for you to get a professional spray tan once a week you'll do it and watch the idea slide
