Hi guys,
I'm about to start year 13 and I hope to study medicine (2019 entry). I was wondering if I have enough extra curriculars for Leeds, Leicester, Imperial/UCL and Cardiff. (Leeds in particular as they look for well rounders)

Dofe bronze
Charity shop volunteering (6 months)
Hospital volunteering (current)
Running club (due to start)
Drama (attended group for about 4/5 months)
Care home volunteering (5/6 months)

I teach myself piano but haven't done grades so maybe not worth talking about.
(I also have work experience and school activities like helping out on open evenings and year 7 mentoring)

Yes that's more than enough. Good luck!

That is plenty! Just remember it’s not about how many you have, it’s about how well you can explain the reflections from the experience.
Good luck

Hi guys,
I heard people can get turned down from Leeds if they don’t nt have enough extra curriculars. Does that mean your personal statement should be say 30-40% extra curriculars?

My extra curriculars:
Dofe bronze
Charity shop volunteering (6 months)
Hospital volunteering (current)
Running club (due to start)
Drama (attended group for about 4/5 months)
Care home volunteering (5/6 months)

I teach myself piano but haven't done grades so maybe not worth talking about.
(I also have work experience and school activities like helping out on open evenings and year 7 mentoring)

But I only mentioned these in my personal statement and skills developed:
Volunteering
Dofe

I don’t know if that is ok though for Leeds. Any thoughts?

As long as it’s relevant to the course, it’s fine. Just link everything to the course. If you’re shadowing a doctor then it should me fine but just say what you did, what you learnt and how it’s linked to the course. I’d mention the drama club as well as you probably learned a lot of relevant stuff.

Please don't double post. I have merged your 2 threads together in the Medicine forum.
