Starting first day of sixth form tomorrow! Do you have any advice?

Just some info before you answer the question. I'm 17 years old and I'm studying Biology, Chemistry and Maths. I have not done any revision of the topics beforehand. I have already done induction day. My lessons tomorrow are Maths and Chemistry. Is there anything I should do in order to well on my first day/ It's because I don't want to fall behind. I want to do well for once, my GCSEs weren't great so I need to step up.I want to achieve AAB to AAA for both AS and A2 so I can study Biochemistry , maybe combine with Genetics/Molecular Biology.
Sorry you've not had any responses about this. :frown: Are you sure you've posted in the right place? Here's a link to our subject forum which should help get you more responses if you post there.

My chemistry lessons was alright, I didn't fully understand so I had to go over the topic of orbitals so I solved my weakness there. As for my first biology lesson, I was late due to train delay but I was on time for his lecture. I didn't feel confident in lesson because I didn't fully catch up in terms of taking notes from the slides, it was about surface area to volume ratio, single cellular /multi cellular organism and specialised exchange surface. For my first two maths lessons, I was taught basic GCSE Maths such as mean, median, range, missing number puzzles and algebraic expressions. This was done by two separate teachers, I have one for Pure Maths and another for Statistics and Mechanics. As for socialising and integrating, I'm not good at that because I'm socialising awkward and can't engage in conversation. It's easier if someone approaches me and they start the conversation and I respond. The students respect and get along but I have not made any friends except I can only hold a short lived conversation.

Most people are in a similar situation as it's the first day, but it'll definitely get a lot better soon. It took me around 2 weeks to properly get used to sixth form.

A-Levels require a bit more effort than GCSE's, but most people are unwilling to put in the extra effort, hence why they don't do very well and so complain about the system. You need to understand that most A-Level exams require different techniques to GCSE, e.g more structured, specific, or detailed answers. It takes time to understand this and so almost everyone struggles at the start of A-Levels until they adjust their exam prep techniques.
