On a journey of self improvement at the moment. I've been very reserved with people recently and want to work on having more of a character. I get the impression that I am too reserved and socially awkward for people to want to be around. Also wanting to turn from introvert to more of an extrovert.
I haven't necessarily got someone to look up to that I know, so I will ask here.
Does anyone have some ideas of how to become a great person and ultimately one that people like?

What does it mean to you? It is an entirely relative thing, but if we are to understand it to mean the stereotypes which surrounds our society like a shroud of mist:
Become a fitter person. Do exercise regularly, swimming, jogging, etc.
Become a spiritual person. Volunteer for a church or some kind of mental health organisation.
Become a more productive person. Work harder and contribute more labour.
Become a more educated person. Learn more about the world.
Become a more involved person. Develop emotional intelligence by volunteering through various charitable organisations, with a local authority or with an interesting and developing private sector company.
Become a nicer person. Take your family out, treat them etc.

I'm meaning in terms of developing myself as a person but particularly in terms of personality. I feel a bit like I am inside a shell.

What do you dislike?
What foods?
Sport?
Jobs?
Kinds of people?
Traits?
What's your background like?
What experiences in the past do you remember most?
If you want to be unique ask yourself questions only your senses can answer, only you know you.

One quick and easy way to improve is to go vegan thereby reducing the suffering that is inflicted upon animals

I agree with the rest of what you are saying, however my opinion is that if other people don't like what I am doing, then I need to adjust how I do things. It's the same for everyone. We need feedback in order to ultimately make improvements.

I'm not a vegetarian (but do support it) however I don't understand veganism and would never do it. Would not be able to eat much..

On to your original question, for self improvement:
-Read often, and broadly
-volunteer (if you can find time and are healthy enough to)
-Learn a language
-Join some kind of group / society / cause. Being like minded w/ a group will help ease the whole feeling awkward a little

What about in terms of personality? That is one of the key things that I want to improve to get somewhere in life. I don't think anyone gets me nor do I really get myself.

In addition to what has already been said, when asked about positive qualities about myself, I never really have an answer because I don't really believe there are any. I need the validation of others to really know if I am on the right track.

adopt nofap imo its the best possible thing u can do right now, hit the gym or if no money jog or ride a bike whatever, read books a mix of good fiction and non fiction such as on things ur interested on, but also on confidence (dr aziz is good), money, relationships i.e. how to talk to people especially potential romantic partners, spirituality, autobiographies. meditate, eat cleaner, buy nice clothes, get a decent haircut, develop new skills and hobbies, join classes/clubs, cut down on bs habbits like excessive internet, video game, smartphone, tv/netflix use. some yt u should check out are elliot hulse, infinite waters, blackwhiteguyinamerica, based zeus, alpham, mikkiois, practical psyhology, flockt v, les brown, eric thomas, tony robbins, gary vee, how to beast, Gabriel Kalei Bocanegra to name a few. a quick tip tho is to not become a selfimprovment wizard i.e. learning all this but never apply it

You can become a better version of yourself in your day to day life without participating in this program. What happens behind closed doors doesn't affect that.
