never joined before but now in year 12 will this help me to apply to oxbridge in the future , improve my thinking skills for exams ?

What have you got to lose? At worst it will be good fun, at best you'll develop critical thinking and critical analysis skills which are essential for successful study at any university. I'd say go for it, as with every opportunity which presents itself to you.

Sounds like fun. I think extracurriculars would be a nice break from work and you may gain skills and confidence from it of course

It won't really affect admissions most likely (maybe slightly relevant for something like Law or PPE...) but it's not going to hurt you, as long as you manage and prioritise your academic workload.
