My parents are moving to Spain permanently at the end of September and as I'm estranged from them I was wondering if we have to leave halls during the holidays? It would definitely be soothing just to know and then I can start sorting out somewhere to stay.

Most halls will house you over Christmas but it’s very unusual for student halls to provide accommodation over the summer. Privately renting may be the best way to go as you can sign a longer lease.

Hi corvus-corax

If you check with the halls office how long your contract is. Some of our halls have to move out at Christmas and Easter, but others get to stay, depending on your contract. Please find the contact details for the halls office in the link below:

Thanks

I'd be surprised if you can. A pity you are unable to spend Christmas with family.

A lot of halls do rent out the accommodation over summer I’m not sure how it works exactly you would need to ask your accommodation provider.

Thanks everyone! I rang the halls office and confirmed that I can stay at halls over all the holidays except summer; all the dorms are doing that now, in case anyone else is in the same spot as me.

I stayed in private halls in Bangor (Ty Willis House, run by iQ), and they allow students to stay all year round if you need to.

Check the terms of your agreement and it will say how many weeks you are paying for. Unis will let you stay all year if you pay extra although depending on hall you may have to move. Contracts can vary between 39 and 51 weeks.
