Hey Guys,

I'll be starting university in January and just wanted some tips as to how an introvert a.k.a a less social human being (like me) can survive university - whether it's an academic advice or social, anything will help

I am an only child plus I don't really have any friends with whom I can open up and literally share my problems with (of course I do have friends but not the type of friends whom I'd be able to share any concerns with) hence, I thought of sharing my situation on TSR

I have never been out of the country - in terms of living all by myself for a long period of time so I'm really in need of some advice... it can be short or even as long as a page, but please just help me out

Currently, I'm terrified about the following things:

• being all alone (since I won't be having a shared accommodation and the few friends that I could possibly make, will be the students living on the same floor as me)

• handling studies plus sleep (so studying enough for exams or quizzes and making sure I still get enough sleep - especially because I sort of struggle to sleep and being away from home means I'll struggle even more, for the first few weeks)

• presentations in front of a class full of strangers as well as potential strict teachers (concerned about my body language and posture because I honestly sound like a robot whenever I'm doing any presentations - I just stand in one place and don't move around my hands or myself plus I literally just say the same point that's being projected on the board but in different words - so I struggle with further explaining stuff, if I were ever asked to)

• missing friends and family (causing me to become emotionally weak)

• handling my expenses and living environment - (so my room, and making it a comfortable, similar-to-home room, considering the fact that rooms are really small at university)

*** sorry for sharing such a huge thread ***

and thanks in advance for any advice that will be provided!

I have never been out of the country - in terms of living all by myself for a long period of time so I'm really in need of some advice... it can be short or even as long as a page, but please just help me out

Currently, I'm terrified about the following things:

• being all alone (since I won't be having a shared accommodation and the few friends that I could possibly make, will be the students living on the same floor as me) You'll make friends on your course, and there will be social activities too- I'm not sure which country you are going to uni in, but wherever you are there will be uni social activities and clubs to join and you will make friends.

• handling studies plus sleep (so studying enough for exams or quizzes and making sure I still get enough sleep - especially because I sort of struggle to sleep and being away from home means I'll struggle even more, for the first few weeks) Time management- if you had to, you would manage balancing your studies and work. Often, when you have more time, you expand the work to fill it. However, it's better to set times for work (and actually work, so no social media, no distractions) and for relaxing/socialising. And make sure you get the sleep you need- your health is the number one priority.

• presentations in front of a class full of strangers as well as potential strict teachers (concerned about my body language and posture because I honestly sound like a robot whenever I'm doing any presentations - I just stand in one place and don't move around my hands or myself plus I literally just say the same point that's being projected on the board but in different words - so I struggle with further explaining stuff, if I were ever asked to) This is going to sound harsh- but you just get on and do them. Presenting is a skill. You get better at it by doing them. Fake it until you make it, and you will get better at this.

• missing friends and family (causing me to become emotionally weak) Missing people is not a bad thing, but you'll be too busy to miss them constantly.

• handling my expenses and living environment - (so my room, and making it a comfortable, similar-to-home room, considering the fact that rooms are really small at university) This is all part of growing up and becoming an independent adult- you'll need to budget for your living expenses so you keep things in check. For your room, small touches like buying nice bedding and towels can really help.
