Naboo from the Mighty Boosh

I'm a huge Boosh fan, but does anyone else feel that Michael Fielding is an awful actor and shouldn't even be in the show? It's obvious that he's only in there because he's Noel's brother, but I genuinely feel that he lets down the show. He has no expression in his voice and slurs everything (I'm not even mentioning his weird lisp as that's obviously not his fault).

I couldn't imagine any other actors playing Noel or Julian's roles, but I can think of loads of better people who could play Naboo.

Does anyone else feel this way?

i see where youre coming from i guess but i think it adds a certain charm to the character. differenciates him from the others

I thought that was on purpose :s

Naboo is meant to be surreal and laid back, Mike places him perfectly.

He's supposed to be like that... just sort of calm and serious. I'm watching the Boosh right now, Tony Harrison FTW

Actually that's what I like about him, I always thought he was supposed to be wooden, that was the idea. It wouldn't be as funny if he wasn't.

:ditto:

But I think Julian Barratt is the perfect straight man also.

Nah, I just think he can't act. I doubt he's supposed to be en expressionless, sluring shaman. If he could act, you'd think they would get him to play more characters, but he clearly isn't capable.

Reply 9

He's definitely meant to be like that. Incidentally, I loooove his voice.

Tbf, I thought he was bad in the first series.

But then as soon as i watched the other series, i realised it's meant to be wooden.

So it's all graaaaaavy ^_^

no way.. i secretly fancy naboo :ninja:

No, let's all agree that AlasTTTair has a valid opinion, as does everybody else. Show me proof that he can act and I'll change my opinion. Judging from all of his appearances in the Boosh, he is wooden and has an annoying voice. Anyone who has conclusive proof that this is deliberate can settle the debate now.

I think so, but unless you see him in other rolls it's hard to tell. I think he does exactly what he's supposed to do, if it isn't acting it doesn't matter anyway.

Proove that he can act if you think I'm wrong! Personally I think it does matter if he can't act; why give your brother a part in your show if they're the worst actor to ever grace BBC3? It could have gone to a much more deserving performer, if indeed he can't act, that is.

Do you not think the lack of acting ability is why he is in the show anyway? Nobody is saying he can act, they are saying his style of 'acting', fits the part perfectly.

Like I said I can't and even if I could it wouldn't matter.

He doesn't though. All of his appearances are slow, boring and completely lacking in expression and emotion. The scene in "The call of the Yeti" when he is explaining about owl beaks, and his delivery of the joke about Howard's eyes at the end of "Journey to the centre of punk" are two of the worst performances I've ever seen by any actor. I seriously doubt this is intentional.

Seriously, how does he play the character well?
