It varies from store to store depending on your location. For my store, the "starting wage" (which doesn't exist anymore: you get the same amount of pay however long you've been there, but it increases after a pay review every July) for over 18s is £6.20
tesco pay well and have good promotion prospects if your not a ****** and your willing to commit. my friend is 19 and is about to accept a 24k package at a metro store.
I got £6.20 an hour a year ago when I worked there (I was over 18 then) but there was a London weighting on that. Btw it was a horrible job :frown:

I get £6.95 an hour. It was £6.70 until very recently but we just had the pay review which meant an increase of 3.8%. Tesco is the UK supermarket which pays its employees the most and probably very competitive in retail generally.
I got £6.28 as a Customer Assistant in Produce. I get more now as I'm a Team Leader.

Promotion prospects in Tesco are great, regardless of how long you plan to be with the company. I'm starting my management training ("Options") in August P/T.

I work at a cat 9 Tesco store near London part time doing 12 hours a week while at 6th form...

The wage at our store is £7.45p/h, this has risen several times since i joined in 2008 courtesy of annual payrises every July. In 2010 Tesco also introduced a payrise for all people aged 16-18 so they get paid the same as 18+ and regardless of age or experience...

This wage also varies regionally and the category of store that you work in...
