The question I was given was "To what extent do socialists disagree about the economy?" (24 marks).

I have looked at some conflicts between the different types and thinkers of socialism with regard to the economy, but I have no idea
how to put this into words on an essay. I've always sucked at writing essays. If I was able to, I could probably receive top grades :/

hi
i would have no idea about the topic of that question but i may be able to help with the structure

the question says 'to what extent', in other words how much do they disagree and how much do they agree (with the focus on the disagree side). This suggests you need to focus most of your essay on how their opinions differ to the current economy, however you may need to discuss a few ways they agree (if there are any) to show the level they disagree at.

for a question like this i would start by breaking it up into a series of question like so: (not sure if theses specific examples are helpful as i know nothing about this topic

what is the current system
what are their opinions
how does that opinion differ from the current system
are their any ways they agree with the system

now you have a direction for your essay to follow. when writing the essay this maybe a good structure to follow:

introduction- what is the current economical system (a short brief overview)
- what is the general stand point of the socialists (a short brief overview)

main body- this is where you will talk about your specific points. let each point have its own paragraph and treat each paragraph as a mini essay, with a beginning middle and end:

ways they disagree (this should make up the majority of the essay):
a sentence describing your point e.g. person A thinks coffee is better than tea.
a couple of sentences explaining this. they think this because.......
compare this viewpoint to current economy e.g.. this opinion differs drastically from the current economic system as......
concluding sentence (this is so important!!!)- a sentence that sums up the paragraph and relates back to the question. e.g.. overall the socialists partially disagree with the current economic system as they believe all coffee is better than tea.

repeat as needed. (try to link previous paragraphs to the next by starting new paragraphs with something like this.... in addition to disagreeing upon... the socialists also disagree upon tea. and then go into your sentence describing your point.

ways they agree (this should make up a small fraction of the essay):
a sentence describing your point e.g. person A thinks coffee is better than tea.
a couple of sentences explaining this. they think this because.......
compare this viewpoint to current economy e.g.. this opinion differs drastically from the current economic system as......
concluding sentence (this is so important!!!)- a sentence that sums up the paragraph and relates back to the question. e.g.. in this case the socialists partially agree with the current economic system as they believe all coffee is better than tea, this shows that they do agree on some elements.

conclusion
sum up all the points addressed above
finish with a final closing sentence that relates directly back to the question e.g.. overall the socialists tend to disagree upon the current economic system as they favour coffee, however they do agree on some elements such as ... and .... .

hope this was helpful and good luck!!!
