The only martial art I've ever taken part in is fencing, which I can confirm is a ton of fun. When I did it at uni, though, it turned out to be too much hassle and the people in the club were kind of cliquey. All the same I didn't go to Warwick so it might be better there.

There is no best martial art. Just different levels of people practicing. I'd recommend doing mma to begin with if the uni provides it. It gives a good intro into many different martial arts from boxing, kickboxing, muay Thai, wrestling, jjujitsu, judo etc. If you find one you especially enjoy, focus on that from there.

Nobody goes to all of them so you won't get a full answer. You'll have to go to a variety of taster sessions and see what you like. I don't about the other clubs, but judo does a beginners course for the first term for those new to the sport, before you start training with everyone else.
