It isn't for you if:

You don't wanna go, you want to go for the wrong reasons, you don't get in.

I think some people find another 3/4 years in education is just getting too much. Then there are those who think getting a degree helps employment chances. Either way, both types can suceed so in the end its just a mater of choice.

Uni isnt for everyone and i hate the idea that if you dont go to uni your screwed for employment. There isnt many apprentiships these days which is a shame cause they gave some great opportunities.

But ppl who don't go touni have those 3 yrs to save up money and then they can start a business or sumthin, thats how these rich guys started. My m8 in skool he has a business where he sells stuff online... u can always take home learning courses and if all else fails just go to the Open university.

What kind of people is university NOT for?

Thickies? Oh, and obviously the poor.

University should be the preserve of rich intelligent people. Everyone else should know there place and do an apprenticeship.

School commences at the age of five. You finish compulsary education at the age of sixteen. Why not stay on for a few more years and hence open more doors for yourself? Sounds like a good investment to me.

Any chance of the buffoon that gave me bad rep for this reversing his or her decision tommorrow? Jesus Christ, do I really need to add the  emoticon every time I'm being having a laugh? Wanker.

Haha, I'm guessing you'll be 'in your place' doing an apprenticeship then - just for your information, it's 'THEIR place', not THERE.

Clearly, your reading skills are lacking somewhat. It's time for your apprenticeship.

I just want to point out that there are many middle class kids who are forced into university by their parents. I read an interview with Philip Pullman who said he was very unhappy at Oxford and would have been far more content at an art school but he adhered to his parents' expectations. One person who didn't blindly obey his parents was Roald Dahl who, when he was asked by his father 'So, where do you want to go: Oxford or Cambridge?' said 'Neither'. I read an interview with some British Hollywood star in the Lent edition of CAM who was saying that he may have fared better at drama school. Although, I couldn't help thinking, 'Oh, stop effing whining. It got you where you wanted to go, didn't it?'

Much indebted to you for pointing out my obvious typo. Naughty Howard. Don't do it again!

In what way? Are you unfamiliar with the difference between "their" and "there"?

For correctly pointing out basic grammatical errors?

I think it was who_me not noticing Howard's next post/sense of humour bypass that led to that comment.

Maybe, but who_me had a point: cracking a joke about "thickies" while making such a basic error was worthy of a response...whether the comment was meant in jest or not.

Whatever. I guess it isn't really worth pursuing.
I suspect that the error was intentional.

Y'know, adding to the ironic nature of the joke?

Really? I did not get that impression at all.

I mainly got it from the fact Howard's posts are usually pretty tight spelling/grammar-wise. Such a simple error wouldn't match his other posts.

EDIT: I say as if I'm some sort of expert on his posting habits.
