Foundation Engineering - Salford Vs Huddersfield

I'm making this thread for my boyfriend because he's a lazy bum and wont do it himself.

Basically, he's been given conditional offers (exactly the same conditions for each) from Huddersfield and Salford to do a foundation year followed by engineering.

Huddersfield is offering mechanical/automotive engineering whereas Salford is offering aeronautical .

The problem is that he doesnt know exactly which type he wants to specialise in (trust me - one day it will be "oh i want to do mechanical" then the next day its "oh but aeronautical would be fun" - indecisive doesnt even BEGIN to explain it!).

He's asked me to help him decide but i know nothing about either of them and i'm applying to do law so know nothing about engineering either!

I was just wondering if people could offer some advice either about the universities in general or the courses specifically.

Thanks in advance for any help!

I'd agree with Salford - because there is always a huge number of people who transfer from Huddersfield to Salford at the start of the 2nd year.

Don't worry too much about specialisation, Engineering is generic for the foundation and first years.

I was Aero and in the same tutorial group as Civil, Mechs and Electricals.

i'd say salford coz its soooo close to manchester city centre which is AMAZING!! but then again i love manchester, so i am biased!! never really heard much about huddersfield so couldnt tell you about that!!
tho this is taken from huds website, There are more than 100 universities in the country. Our regular QAA inspections put the University of Huddersfield 3rd in the north of England, and 2nd out of all the "new" universities in the country for teaching quality.*
easiest way is to make a list of pros and cons!!

hey, salford is much better and has got a very, very, very good engineering department. most of my friends have gone there and one ended up being an investment banker and earns a 6 figure salary while my other mates have ended up working in costain and atkins which are a world wide multi billionair company. huddersfield is rubbish. salford has only got a rep for engineering and audiology so go salford. nice uni
