transfer from open university

hi,

I was wondering if you can transfer from the open university to a brick/on campus university.

I plan on doing a business an management course from the open university but I would like to transfer to a brick uni after one or two years.

has anyone ever done this? if so, what course did you do and where did you get accepted?

also, if I plan on transferring do I start a certificate or higher education, diploma of higher education, or a honours degree with the open university?

a bit background info:
- I want to know if I can transfer because we had to move out of the UK after I did my GCSEs and there is nowhere for me to do A Levels to where I moved
- I gave distance learning a levels a chance, but failed miserably
- I'm currently 17, so hopefully wanting to transfer for 2019 or 2020 entry

I have a friend who did this.

So each year at a brick uni is worth 120 credits. Studying part time at the Ou means you can do anywhere between 30-90 Credits, 120 credits would count as full time.

To transfer to another uni it depends on the university, some will say on there admissions pages if they take Ou credits for entry others you will have to contact the admissions team to find out. They tend to ask for 120 Credits and usualy that is to transfer into the first year of a degree.
Doing it this way means the credits you eatn at the OU don’t count.

Though the OU do have the 2 + 2 schemes with some unis and subjects that allow you entry into the second year at a brick uni after completing 2 years at the OU. This might be something you want to look into more.

So it is possible for you to transfer to a brick uni but you will have to do the leg work to find courses and universities thay will accept OU credits.

Have you started studying woth the OU yet?
Why do you want to go to a brick uni?

Hi, what course did your friend do and what uni did she get a transfer to?

No, I haven't started studying with OU yet.

I want to transfer because I don't want to do distance learning forever, the only reason why I want to do OU is so that I can use that as a pathway to gain entry into brick uni as I don't have A levels.

You should check with some brick universities first about this plan. Unless you are a mature student you may still be expected to have Level 3 qualifications (e.g. A-levels). An 18yo with one year of OU study may not meet their requirements.

She did 120 credits in there english litterature/creative writing modules while working part time and volunteering at some kind of magazine and went to Kingston uni for first year entry into an english degree.

But she talked to all the unis she was interested in applying to first before signing up for modules making sure they would be accepted for her chosen course.
you'd be better off looking at doing an access to HE course at a local college. These are more accepted and known by universities and you can take out a loan for them! OU credits are great for mature students but as you are only 17 most universities will probably expect you to have more traditional qualifications. Definitely worth emailing universities though.
