I assume it is something to do with contextual data:
"Qualifying applications which are flagged with contextual data are ranked according to their BMAT results, with the top ranking candidates invited to interview. BSMS aims to offer 30% of its interviews to candidates with contextual data flags. All remaining applications are then ranked according to their BMAT results, with the highest ranking candidates invited to interview."

Did you guys all sit the BMAT?

Tbh yeah, just too weird
(Original post by chidz1234)
I really hope they’re not😭 that’d be awful
If 30% of interviews are reserved for applicants with contextual data and the total of applications received that are flagged with contextual data are less than that 30% number then everyone should get called for interviews whatever their BMAT score. So interview calls going out before BMAT results. Makes sense ?

In numbers. Let us say.

Total interviews planned 1,000
30% reserved for applicants with contextual data 30% of 1,000 = 300
Total applications received flagged for contextual data 300

All applicants get interviewed whatever their BMAT. By the time they do the interviews the BMAT score will be in their hands so can be considered when offer decisions are made.

wow i never knew that because on the open day, the admissions tutor said to everyone that once you get an interview, the only thing that matters is that interview. :/

So what you are saying is that less (or exactly) 30% of applicants had CD. So no matter the bmat score, they need to get invited anyway. That’s the only possible explanation

Since the 30% reservation is only for those with contextual data the others will need to be ranked on BMAT score then a cutoff decided to call for interviews.

Then post interview the 30% with CD will be ranked based on BMAT?

I don't think so. By interview time they would probably have ranked and know the rank of the 30% with CD. May effect the decision when comparing two candidates who performed same at interview but haven't read anywhere that anything other than performance at interview matters.

It doesn't say, but I assume you'd just be ranked on interview performance.

Does this mean they have sort of bypassed our BMAT and will only use it if they need to discriminate between two candidates ?
