Do You Think This Is a Mickey Mouse Degree?

I've just been reading about 'mickey mouse' degrees e.g. wine studies and surfing and I just wanted people's opinions on the course i'm taking.
The course i'm taking is Computer Forensics, which is quite new but which is relevant in this day in age because of the huge computational reliance society is, and with that, the crimes that come with this.

So as I say, i'm just interested in what people think of my course.

No way that must be a pretty well respected degree, especially with all the maths involved.
It sounds like a very good course - will be becoming increasingly important.

If you are worried, couldn't you do a normal Forensic degree which has lots of options or that you could specialize in computers.

Out of interest where is the course?

It sounds like it will be an increasingly important degree to have in years to come, with all the technological advancements.

*offers cookie* (not in an innuendo way though...)

Just because it's new doesn't mean it's a mickey mouse subject.

Mickey mouse subject's are things like Media Studies and TV Production etc.

Nope, sounds good to me
Nah it sounds fine. I read a news story this weekend about them introducing a degree in selling beds- now that's pretty mickey mouse...
I'm pretty sure it's well respected. Computer Forensics is incredibly hard!

The course is at Glamorgan and it started in 2005 I think. According to the website it's been developed based around what employees want so it's really 'in touch' with what's needed.
I'm coming to the end of the first year which has just been a general year. The real 'meat' of the course starts next year when we get involved with cryptography, network security, oprating systems and event driven programming.
Seeing all these discussions and reports of mickey mouse degrees just made me wonder what people thought of my course - not that i'm going to lose any sleep over it! At the end of the day I wouldn't have picked a course that wouldn't get me far in the world of work and I feel that i've made the correct choice.

ahh i wouldn't listen to people's ideas of mickey mouse degree's on TSR, it's a very warped view!!!! Some people have even considered my degree a mickey mouse and of no use, and easy lol

It sounds quite interesting actually, do you enjoy it?

Not at all, I think it sounds really interesting! Just because it is specialised, doesn't mean it is a mickey mouse degree!

Unless you do the computing work whilst riding a surfboard and drinking wine, you're okay. That would be pretty awesome, though, albeit impossible...
