Another example...

Why do we have a "Cabinet Minister for Women" and not a "Cabinet Minister for Men"?

Well there's one for traffic... defence... sports. There's loads :p:

There are more specialist needs of women than are currently being taken into account. (Why do we need cabinet minister for women etc.)

whats feminisim - and attack on men. WE NEED MASCULINISM (IS THAT THE RIGHT WORD)

feminism is not necessarily an attack on men. its more about equality for men and women.

i do not know enough about the bursaries to talk about them as this is the first i've heard of it, but i dont see a problem in trying to encourage people to take a subject that are underrepresented
If women and the government really want equal rights then why aren't they just left to be and to make their own choices. I hate all this feminism crap too, and the government backs up by encouraging them to do traditionally male-dominated subjects.

If feminism is all about doing manly things, why don't they make all women serve a compulsary term in the army? Encourging women to take subjects their unrepresented in by means of financial insentive is ****ing stupid. A degree is a 3 year commitment so why take a subject you really aren't that interested in just because you were offered a load of money for doing it. If you're not interested, you probably won't do well.

why cos men serve a compulsory term in the army???

and the fact that subjects are male dominated or female dominated is the problem ...it shouldnt be that way
lol..at kiss me now..

Its a shame men still have this stupid view...look around you, women are still being underpaid and underepresented in government..we have a long way to go, men ARE being encouraged in art specialisms, eg nursing- not an art role but a female dominated career

i dont think it sounds 'gay' i think it sounds sexist
I'd imagine this might occur for stereotypically non-female subjects, but it isn't something that I have encountered. If anything, the focus seems to be upon lower-income students.

Women and men are too very different creatures naturally, to suggest that there could be a perfect balance between male and females in anything in this world is absolutely absured. We're two totally different sexes and are attracted to different things - subjects of study included. Of course, there are acceptions, and the acceptions to indeed go onto study Physics, or join the Army - nothing is stopping them.

Since you seem to have missed the definition of feminism... It's equality with men, not manly things :p: Well, they don't make men do a compulsory term in the army (unless I'm misinformed) so that wouldn't be feminist, that would be sexist (since the guys don't have to, and you're suggesting that all women should).

I am quite aware of the dictionary definition of feminism. All I'm saying is, if women are being encouraged to pick up male-dominated subjects by financial insentive, then it, to me, seems more like a means of "proving themselves", than any genuine interest in a subject. In which, they may as well just be encouraged to join the army.

I am a feminist but I don't agree with making it easier for women to be accepted/sponsored/funded for typically "male" subjects, just as I don't agree with quotas for state schools/minorities.

I agree, however I do think it's important for there to be an equal representation amongst the genders. And if it means that we have to throw a bit of money at the girls who wouldn't have considered the job before, then so be it.

i think in a way its trying to even out the inequality that exists....men and women have always been associated with certain subjects and in order to change this the government are attempting to encourage people to go out of norm and follow a subject they may not have first thought of because of the stereotypes..

i dont think its necessarily fair that women get money...but as its happening i would expect men to get the same treatment to encourage then to take different subjects
