Is Birmingham safe?

I’m considering applying to Birmingham University for Law however I’m having second thoughts now as I’ve seen lots of articles saying how dangerous it is to live there especially if you’re a student and a girl. How safe is it and is it worth me missing out on a place at the uni because of crime rates?

Edgbaston is fine. Selly Oak is not fine at night, to be honest, but a lot of us are trying to get more police on the streets and more Uni involvement.

As for the crime, your reading what happens in places where it's contained. Much of the crime is gang related. Don't join a gang, don't have problems. That's good life advice for wherever you end up, to be honest.

You might have heard of places like Yardley, Ladywood, Alumrock, Druids Heath, Kings Norton, Great Barr. These are all miles from where you'll be. Birmingham is a big place.

You'll be hanging around Selly Oak, Edgbaston, and Digbeth mostly. Nothing happens there.
