Obama's election. Pretty big.
I remember lots of these. Not 9/11, but Arab Spring absolutely (even though it's not a very acute "event").

These are only world changing from our pespective too. Not many people in Peru will be affected by the fall of communism in the West - for example.

Hmm - I don't consider any of these really to be world changing. These may be big geographically, but very small in the big picture. Kurt Cobain's death really hasn't changed anything, for example.

For me, world changing events would be the discovery of nuclear etc.

What about the internet? Facebook beginning (or possibly Twitter). The I-phone?

Kurt Cobain's death whilst sad I would not include in any list.

Kieran Trippier’s free kick vs Croatia. England peaked when that went in.

Arguably the death of Ghadaffi for a couple of reasons

Libya became a corridor for the people smuggling of migrants into Europe

It's sent an unfortunate signal to third world tyrants... they'd live longer and be better off by remaining hostile to the west. He went from being the west's long standing enemy number one to 'not such a bad chap after all' to being a bullet riddled corpse in a sewerpipe.

I would say of the events that have occurred in my life time, specifically that I can remember, the most world changing/world renowned would be:

9/11
Saddam Hussein's capture
7/7
The Arab Spring
The Financial Crisis of 2007-08
The migrant crisis
Discovery of the Higgs Boson
The rise of the iPhone/the internet (for example, I remember using youtube the year it was created).
The death of Bin Laden
The elections of Obama and Trump
Brexit referendum
The rise of Islamic State
The major natural disasters of my time (2004 Indian Earthquake/Tsunami, Hurricane Katrina and the 2011 Earthquake/Tsunami in Japan spring to mind).

Quite astounding when you think about how much has happened.
