So for my language investigation coursework, I'm comparing language used in War of the Worlds (1897) and The Humans (2013) to see how time has affected language use within a genre. I've taken the first chapter of each book as an extract and have also collected background data on both authors and the times they wrote their pieces. On top of that, I have also constructed a timeline of all major scientific events in the time between the writing of both books. My only problem now is my case study.

It sounds simple, right? A case study on how technology has affected language over time. BUT I CAN'T FIND ANYTHING! The only things I have been able to find are about text speak or learning English as a second language. I thought I'd lucked out when I found a paper about Halliday's Functional Theory (SFL; how language changes to fit the needs of its speakers) but it turns out that was just about clauses in hymns.

I seriously need some help here!
