Okay so i know hatte is used in past tense with a past verb, but i saw someone use habe with a past verb and was wondering if that is correct and if so when do i need to use habe instead of hatte in past tense?

habe + past participle --> perfect tense e.g. I have eaten

hatte + past participle --> pluperfect tense e.g. I had eaten
