Yeah that sounds find for AS grades, - its the interview thats important. I was talking to my tutor (i'm doing dentistry now) and he said they are going to put up the requirements to AAA (or lat least thinking about AAA soon).

I'm doing it at Newcastle - only just starting, its great though. The best way to get interviewed is to embelish a little on your personal statement! esp. the work experience section, - thats a favourite but make sure you can back it up cos they always ask you about it!

For the work experience part, mention what you've done, and maybe expand on that by saying what you saw that makes you think dentistry is for you and/or what you learnt from it. I also prattled about why I thought i'd be suitable, and how i'd contribute to the dental school.

Be careful not to embelish too much because believe me, they will pick up on it at interview.

hi there, i'm about to take the rest of my AS modules this summer, in chemistry, biolgy, maths and business, and i reallly really wana do dentistry! so much so, that i'm writing my personal statement in a couple of weeks and getting it all sorted early and get everything ironed out. In response to ur qn about recent issues, the main issue in dentistry at the moment is about the way NHS dentists are being paid, atm they are paid by peice-rate which is basically getting paid per item of work they do, the problem with this is that it doesnt allow the dentist much time to speak with the patient and carefully explain their treatment - this is because they dont get paid for that, only for what they do, so what alot of dentists do is work as fast as they can and try to minimise the chit-chat with patients therefore maximise their pay, however, by doing so the level of patient care drops which is a really bad thing, well anyway, alot of dentist like to spend time talking to their patients about their treatments and explain fully whats going on, if ur working under the NHS its hard to do that cuz u dont get paid, so whats happening is that alot of dentists are moving from NHS to private practices, creating a HUGE shortage of NHS dentists. Now the government is in a pickle over this, cuz they are facing the problem of sorting out the NHS system, and at this point my knowlege on the topic stops, cuz i'm not sure if the gov' are making changes already or are about to. but anyway that is one of the major recent issues. other issues include flouridation of mains water supplies, and stuff to do with anaestics.

let's use a bit of logic here..... you're true in saying that there are a shortage in dentists and that a lot are going into private practice. this leaves GREAT BIG opportunities for graduates in dentistry to work in the public sector and so forth...... on the other hand if you can open up your own private practice then you're half way there

the difference between working for the governement is that they provide you with the equipment and the registration details needed for carrying out day to day practice on patients... a dentist would earn around ÂŁ110,000 working in London ( average ) a year but the expenses for equipment drag this down to about half of that ( around 47 k ) whereas if you own your own practice you don't have the government on your back and the expenses are far less

i'll send you my personal statement, it got me 4 offers out of 4 and for my AS's i got
Chemistry: A
Physics B
Computing B
Maths: C

my offer for liverpool is bbb, manchester ABB, sheffield, ABB , queen mary AAB

the glass is half-full, remember? most people think they did worse on their A-Levels than they actually find out on results day.

if you did do badly, ring the uni straight away and they may be open for negotiation if you miss the offer by a grade. admissions people can be quite lenient, even with a degree course such as denistry where few offers are given out in the first place. in the worst case scenario there's always clearing, where you would do a science-degree or take a gap year and reconsider your ptions.

i dare say you'll find an "A" appearing from somewhere on results day though..

Cheers!!! but i thought that for my AS levels and did worse than what i was predicted!! i'm just getting a bit nervous for results day now! i don't know what i would do with a science degree as i really want to do dentistry!! if i was to consider a different degree then i would love to do french! would any one recommend resitting? i just think if i did that then i would get really bored!! as i hav gotten As in mock exams but i just feel that the exam on the day didnt go to well!!
