Seems that for certain regulated activities the caution will have to be declared ie if she wants to be a finacial advisor.

FSA regulated roles... do you know what they are exactly? I'm guessing they're not something an undergraduate would be employed for anyway

no idea - I don't do finance. Advising on bank accounts might ve caught by it though.

After a lot of searching, it seems that most investment banks do check criminal records (which includes caution) :frown:

Since it is a minor offense and one which I hope/know she won't do again, is there any financial recruiter who knows how much this would be held against her?

Who the **** cares?

Just apply anyway. Not like anything anyone says on here should change YOUR mind.

And stop pretending it is 'your sister' instead of YOU. Thinner than the thinnest paper lie I've seen.

As I said in reply to your whiny pm:
GET. ON. WITH. IT.

I actually wrote that last post before I finished talking to you. I don't particularly care if you think it's me or not. All we're asking for is some help. Thank you for your help, but I think I've been curteous enough. Of course someone would be panicking if they thought something could jeopardize their whole career

I was cautioned for common assault for a domestic matter a few weeks ago. Do you think this will affect my employability, as this offence is not directly related to my day to day work. I work in a non fsa regulated front-office role. When I come to look for new jobs, do you think I will get rejected due to this caution?

Reply 47

It's a factor. Not a sufficient cause for anything to happen.

Most employers don't delve in as far as a CRB, which is when the minor stuff comes to the surface. CRB are really only for working with children where they look at absolutely everything.

If we consider that even in the case of a full-blown CRB check you would stand a reasonable chance to slip through the net (as highlighted oh-so-well by Huntley), there is not much to worry about.

they've tightened it up since then though you need, for example, a new CRB everytime you move employer etc but yes it is true there's not a great deal to worry about even with all of this security surrounding it. THe last time i had to do one i needed just one character reference and my GCSE certificates and a bank statement for identity...really rigorous....

BANKS WONT CHECK AND THEY DONT GIVE A **** ABOUT A ****ING CAUTION FOR SHOPLIFTING. The people who check these things are such ******s they cant even check whether you got the correct grades or not never mind a silly little caution.

You're sadly mistaken, companies like Powerchex get away with charging vast fees precisely because *they catch people*. I've certainly known of people being fired (from BBs down to midsize hedgefunds) after a post-hiring check turned up something dodgy (mostly fake degrees, employment records, etc.).

Probably not, unless you come across as agressive in the interview stage and HR think you might go on a rampage.

The bank I'm going to did a full CRB check; I know because they sent me a copy (not sure if that's a legal requirement, or just HR letting me know that they're pissed because I didn't actually fill in any of their stupid little online forms (or in fact communicate with them at all) until after one of the directors went over their heads and offered me a job, and are hence trying to find some reason to reject me..).

haha nice how did they go over HR's heads. lol you can tell me but only if its not because you have a contact...then it's boring and predictable :p:

One copy of the CRB check goes to the personc checked so they can raise an objection if it is wrong.
