President Macron has stepped up attempts to attract UK-based carmakers to France with a private dinner at the Elysée Palace, following their growing concerns about a botched Brexit deal. The heads of Renault Nissan, Vauxhall and Jaguar Land Rover are understood to have been among executives invited to a dinner last week, where the president warned against growing nationalism around the world and said he was making France more business friendly. It is the latest sign Macron is trying to attract firms nervous about the uncertainty created by Brexit. Three French ministers also took part in the dinner, with the organisers ensuring that companies with major UK operations were represented.

Will all manufacturers leave the U.K. after brexit?

Mass market cars can be assembled anywhere from parts sourced all over the world.

Will manufacturers leave Britain? Am not surprised if both Opel/Vauxhall and Nissan leaves as both of these are French owned by PSA and Renault therefore it is no surprise if they would leave as there are many plants in France as well and Germany that are running at under-capacity and it should never be a surprise that a French company chooses to abandon a British factory as history has shown in the past. Entire companies have been shut down so what is a just a factory?

Honda and Toyota, Honda only has presence in Britain for its EU markets and it is unlikely they would shut it down. Toyota does have other production plants in the rest of EU therefore it won't be surprising if they choose to build cars elsewhere.

Tata and BMW group, these are somewhat different from the rest, these companies are deeply rooted in England and most of these cars are fairly expensive premium cars that doesn't rely on razor thin margins, therefore it is easier for these companies to absorb inefficiencies. Would they up and leave Britain? Highly unlikely though in future these cars would continue to be designed and engineered in Britain but built elsewhere for EU market (Many are now built in Holland and Austria already) while the ones made in Britain would go to other parts of the world.

This is not the first time car makers are up and leaving Britain, there used to be a major Peugeot assembly plant in Ryton a former Rootes Group factory, was shutdown. Ford which for much of the postwar years was a leader in car production in Britain producing more than British Leyland or Rootes Group also stopped making cars in Dagenham from 2000 onward. Instead the cars that were once produced in Britain were brought in from EU.

Manufacturers leaving? I won't be too worries about it.

Bit crystal ball. as we dont know the deal and we also dont know the UK response. Its possible TM may make the UK more attractive by lowering CT even more. Macron cant do that.
