Hi Everyone,

I am a Food Science final year student at the University of Reading. It is really exciting that you are thinking of studying Food Science, I have absolutely loved my year and have found Reading an amazing uni to study at. We have great facilities (including a pilot plant in the basement of our building), the modules are really interesting and such good lecturers.

I've also just finished my placement year working for Mondelez International (Cadbury) as a research scientist, and would thoroughly recommend doing a placement year as part of your degree programme if you can!

If you have any questions about food science, the application process or studying at Reading I would be happy to help!

Good luck

Alice

Hey Sofiaaaaa1

That's great you are thinking of applying for Hallam - let me know if you would like any information about the course or student life in Sheffield!

Thanks
Bridget

Hello,

So I didn't have an interview because I actually came to Reading via adjustment, but lots of my friends did so I can speak from their experiences.

They've said it was a very informal day and involved a chat with one of the lecturers, asking about your personal statement, why you wanted to study at Reading and also why you wanted to study Food Science. Nothing particularly challenging, just an informal conversation. I believe you also got tours of the department and a chance to chat with students on the day too (and a chance to meet with potential students too)

Hope this helps, and also so happy you are thinking of studying Food Science - it was my best decision. Any other questions just let us know,

Alice

Hi Alice,
I personally am really interested in chemistry and its applications in the real world, which makes me interested in more research or development roles within the food industry. I was wondering if you could tell me what you did on your industrial year and also if a role is research role is suited to someone who enjoys chemistry a lot more than biology.
