My daughter has just started GCSE music this year. What are the best easy songs for her first composition?
Does she have to play an instrument too as she only has started keyboard /guitar lessons.

My daughter just finished music gcse. I can only speak for the edexcel board. If she is doing the edexcel exam, she will be required to do a performance in year 11. They like you to be grade 4 standard by then (but you don’t need to have done any grade exams). If you do pieces harder than grade 4, then you get extra marks. My daughter had to do two pieces - one solo, and one ensemble.
As for composition, they get given a type of music that they have to compose. My daughter did a minimalism composition and an African drumming composition. The teachers will give you tips and feedback, so you can perfect your composition before it is sent off for marking. I think they also got sent off in y 11 so plenty of time.
I can recommend the cgp music revision guide.
