Why does everyone hate Jack Wills!

I find this really odd and it's beginning to get annoying. The brand isn't that expensive for a top brand at all. The clothes arent ridiculously priced. Why does everyone keep going on and on about it?
There's absolutly nothing special about this brand. Most of the clothes are average with the few exceptional clothing, so why does this brand stir up SO much hatred. I really dont get why people give a crap. People literal burn with anger at the mention of the name, or drool like they think its something special. But it clearly isnt.

So in short why is so much attention paid to this clearly average brand?

Personally I think it's either people thinking they're buying into something exclusive, or resenting the idea of the exclusive thing being there at all.

Either way, a strong response - the burning with resentment or drooling - is exactly what the company wants, so everyone's doing them a favour.
It's because it is an unofficial uniform for the children of the upper middle classes - who act as if it unites them, and represents them as startling, interesting individuals - when in reality they all just look the ****ing same.

The worst bit about it is that it's basically GAP vs Boden at about 8x the price.

I hate it because it charges a LOT for really average clothes, yet some people absolutely love it. Actually, one of the most repulsive things about it is that it calls itself an "university outfitters," as though its clothing should be some sort of standard clothing for university students. Not to mention that it is pretentious enough to call its catalogue a "handbook."
i think its over priced

and to some extent no better then any other high street chain

jack willis thinks its better then them though!

Personally, I dislike the way they refer to themselves as 'University Outfitters' and try and buy into the image of being cool and studenty (kudos to them, they've succeeded enough to be successful!). Also, I hate how some of their brands are like "JW Rowing Club"... Eh!?
Top brand? Well ive never heard of it :s-smilie:
It IS expensive, i meant..wtf £29 for a t-shirt, no thanks...

AND it only goes to a size 14..

AND, it seems like the clothes emma watson wears, and she is my mortal enemy..
I've never heard of Jack Wills other than on this forum.

The very fact that people are talking on the internet about this brand and that I am thus aware of it is a huge marketing success. If the Head of Marketing at Jack Wills was a TSR stalker, he would probably be ejaculating at all this free publicity.

Yes. For all that anyone buys from it, it's an overpriced sports shop...

I don't 'hate' the brand, but the Rah look is really not good and that's the place I've seen it visibly well, anywhere. Coming from a private schooled, middle class student as myself...

I saw that skanque on the High Street the other day. She looked utter pretentious.

excuse my ignorance but who?

Considering theyre 'supposed' to be a top brand of the league of Diesel and Hackett £29 for a t-shirt isnt too much. Difference is theres a HUGE gap in quality between clothes from Diesel and that from JW.

Hermione
Never heard of it!
Maybe reverse snobbery, or not liking the people who buy into it (aka generalizing), blah blah blah. No idea. Topshop is just as **** or worse, and the same price, yet interestingly people have less of a problem with it compared to JW. But I have to admit it is getting such a cliche, and is pretty overdone now.
good question :p:

i don't particularly love/loathe it
just another shop

I went to the shop, out of interest, when it opened in my home town. The staff made me feel distinctly uncomfortable, as the way I dress is the antithesis of their brand! Snobs.

That's exactly why. People are buying clothes just for the brand name. Its not just hate against jack wills, but all brands who charge horendously for a plain tshirt with the brand's name on it.
Some of my friends love jack wills, and we often have conversations like this:

JW friend: oh wow, i bought this really nice jack wills tshirt for £40
me: why would you want to spend £40 on a tshirt? i got one just like that from tescos for £5
JW friend: yes, but it's in a nice colour and it says jack wills at the bottom.

I mean, come on!

lmao about the comment about Emma Watson... I love how everybody just hates her.

Back on topic, people dislike JW because of the people that usually wear it and the lifestyle it promotes. I'll admit, a lot of the obnoxious insecure wannabe-rah people I know where loads of JW, but the brand itself is allright. I don't think the clothes are that spectactular, but I do like their shirts, they are very smart and well fitting. Some people do take it a bit too far by wearing it head to toe, and I agree those type of people do look really stupid.
