Hi I'm Tilly!

Though it would be nice to create a thread for LANS 2019 applicants as I've just sent in my application! Eeek!

Just a couple of questions to get us all introduced then
What do you think you want to major in?
(Humbio or HumNeuro)
Why Birmingham?
(Looove the course and the campus it's just so friendly!)
What are your grade predictions?
(A*AAA)
Why LANS?
(I want to be interdisciplinary minded, for a career in global health its so important!)
Where else are you applying?
(Ox, Nott, humneuro and brum! And Edinburgh)
Finally, what do you excel at?
(Limbo!!)

Super nervous for a reply from Birmingham but excited for the admissions essay!!

I’m Erin!! I want to major in English lit or gender studies, love the course most out of the liberal arts degrees I applied too (Durham, Exeter, Bristol and KCL), I’m predicted A*A*B and a Distinction in a btec. I love that LANS is so flexible and can really allow me to find a niche by linking different disciplines! Not sure if I excel at it but I love writing and debating x
Hi Erin! Lovely to hear from you, gender studies looks super interesting to me I definitely want to minor it! Let me know how your admissions goes and we'll battle through it together, also, I bet you do excel at it! X

Hi, I'm Amy!

What do you think you want to major in? International Relations

Why Birmingham? I love the atmosphere of the university and city alike - everyone I met at the open day was so friendly and helpful. Plus, the music facilities are amazing!

What are your grade predictions? AAA

Why LANS? I enjoy a wide range of subjects and I would like to be part of an interdisciplinary course where I can study the subjects I'm interested in.

Where else are you applying? Birmingham, Dundee, Exeter, Queen's (and International Relations and Spanish and Latin American Studies in Aberdeen)

Finally, what do you excel at? Playing the piano & French Horn

*Also, has anyone decided what subject their admissions essay will be yet?

Jake1099 I wrote about my favourite film, babbled on a bit about the cultural context and picked out some images I like. Hope that’s helpful?

Thank you
I will focus on the natural sciences side, do you think I'd be OK writing an essay for the non-science questions?

I'm planning on writing about Graphene, I've attached the key scientific discoveries of 21st century from wikipedia but there are more.
Alternatively you could use the "what text has been most significant in your life?" question and write about a scientific text or TED talk that inspired you which is probably easier.

Hi Thanks very much

Was thinking about writing about embryo editing
What things should I include?
Plan -
Intro
What it is
How it has impacted the field (good and bad)
What the potential is for future
Conclusion

Anything else? Don't know what to write for intro, really bad at those 😂

Hey i was wondering if anyone else has written the essay on the most significant text in their life? If so how have you included the aspect of taking into account others opinions in your essay? I'm not sure how I should include an element of debate / argument ...
Also, has anyone got any advice for essay writing from the offers holders day?

emilyyy.225 I’m not sure I did that in mine...was that a requirement? I included a quote from a producer and sort of considered how the film may be interpreted vs my own interpretation, (about how female characters appear), but other than that I’m not too sure...
