I am trying to decide between applying to Dundee, Heriot-Watt, Strathclyde and Aberdeen as my fifth option. Which one would you choose and why?

I have also already applied to St Andrews, Edinburgh and Glasgow. Which of these do you find better for Computer Science?

It would be really helpful if you replied giving any advice, information or opinions you have about this course at any of these universities.

Hi leonidas,

Heriot-Watt University here with top reasons to choose us!

1. You can take advantage of our international campuses by studying Computer Science or Computer Systems at our Dubai campus for a semester or a year

2. You can choose to specialise in your final year in: Data Science, Games Programming, Artificial Intelligence or Software Engineering. Software Engineering at Heriot-Watt is ranked joint 1st in the UK and 1st in Scotland for overall student satisfaction (100% of students were satisfied overall with their course). :king1:

3. Edinburgh is incredible! In August it's home to the Fringe Festival and in December it's home to a Christmas wonderland. Our campus is set in beautiful parkland just on the outskirts of the city. You can take a virtual tour here.

4. We have a Student Equipment Fund which allows you to purchase technology to explore the usage of and code development for new platforms. It doesn't have to be as part of your course, it can be for a personal project too. Students recently bought an EZ-Robot Adventure Bot, an LED Cube, an Amazon Echo Dot and a Raspberry Pi Zero W.

5. We have very strong links with the computing industry with representatives of more than 30 companies attending our Industrial Advisory Board. Much of our research is in collaboration with leading computing enterprises and our students really value our research-led teaching by our enthusiastic staff. Graduates have gone on to work for Rockstar North, Codeplay Software, Skyscanner, BlackRock, Leonardo, Cadence, RBS and Satalia.

6. We are a world-leader in Robotics and AI. For the second year in a row, we have made it to the final of the Amazon Alexa Challenge!

7. You can extend your Computer Science degree to the 5-year MEng in Software Engineering which includes an integrated Masters year and a 6-month work placement.

8. All of our Computer Science degrees, including Computer Systems and Information Systems, can be taken in conjunction with a Diploma in Industrial Training which gives you 12 months experience of working in industry and an additional qualification. :awesome:

We ask for Highers ABBB including Mathematics at B. If you don't have the mathematics, you could start BSc Computer Systems and take an optional maths course. If you do well, you could transfer to BSc Computer Science for Year 2 onwards.

Have you visited any universities' Open Days? It could help you to decide. We have our final one coming up on Friday 26th October. We'd love to see you there. You can book a place on our website https://www.hw.ac.uk/uk/meet-us/edin...s-open-day.htm

Best wishes,

Holly

Hi S_Sabdi :ciao:

Yes, we do accept Access to HE (engineering). For Year 1 entry to our BSc Computer Systems, we ask for the Access to HE course to be passed with 60 credits overall, including 45 credits at level 3, with distinction in at least 24 credits and merit in 21 credits.

For Year 1 entry to our BSc Computer Science, we would need to check the mathematics content of your Access to HE (engineering) to see if it has sufficient mathematics (we usually ask for A-Level Mathematics). Alternatively, it is possible to start BSc Computer Systems, take an optional Maths course in Semester 1, pass it at Grade C, and then transfer to BSc Computer Science for Year 2 onwards.

If you would like me to check the mathematics content, can you please email the details to me at [email protected]
