Veterinary Medicine 2019 UK

Hey, I was wondering if any of you have applied for veterinary medicine 2019 entrance. When do you think they will start sending interviews out? Which unis have you applied to? Which unis do you think are the best?

Thanks 😊
So there is a 2019 veterinary applicants thread in the vet forum! I think you’ll find it interesting. I’ve applied this year for Liverpool, Cambridge, Nottingham and Liverpool. Interviews tend to come out mid November (Bristol don’t interview).

As for which unis are best, it’s really impossible to say, but some basic information can be found on the wiki. All the city unis will have some time on a campus as the vet schools are all outside of the parent city. The uni with the best international reputation is probably Edinburgh, but within the UK it really varies. Nottingham is well known for being practical, Cambridge for being science oriented (though it’s more practical than rumour may let on), Liverpool for equine (again this is debatable and probably due to the compulsory 6 week rotation block on equine where other vet schools may allow you to choose), and Surrey is very new and hasn’t really built up a reputation yet.

Good luck to you! Have you applied this year- where to?

I couldn't find a thread for 2019 entrance so just decided to make one myself!! I have applied to Edinburgh Glasgow rvc and Nottingham. They all seem like amazing universities so I would be thrilled to go to any of them. I'm not sure I can wait until mid November to find out if I've got an interview.Good luck to you too! Do you know what are you would like to specialise in?

There is a 2019 thread- it’s called 2019 veterinary applicants and you should be able to find it pretty high up in the vet forum! It’s such a long time isn’t it- at least once we come back from half term it won’t be too long until we find out. I think I’ll probably go into mixed practice first and then specialise and go into small animal referral/exotics. The only thing I’m sure of is that I won’t end up in equine! What about you?

Oh dear, clearly I didn't look too hard 😂 I'll check it out, thanks for letting me know! Unfortunately I have no half terms since I'm currently in the Spanish education system.
I am so happy to hear someone say that!! Normally most of the people I talk to want to go into equine, something I'm not really passionate about. I would like to specialise in exotics and hopefully do some research on and work with wild and endangered species. Thats the dream anyway!

Haha don’t worry- it’s quite good actually for advice on all the forms and everything you have to fill in . Ah that’s annoying, that might mean your interview is at a different time because you’re international?

Yeah equine seems so popular but I really don’t like it that much! I’d love to do some wildlife work as well which is why I went for Edinburgh because I figured they have more accreditation so I’d have more options for working abroad!
Hey! So I’ve looked for the official 2019 VetMed applicant thread too but I can’t seem to fine it....so thought I may as well comment here instead! 😁 I’ve applied to Liverpool, Cambridge, Nottingham and Bristol this year. I feel like I’m constantly checking UCAS for updates on possible interview offers 😂

Exactly, I was looking for the unis with the most accreditation which seem to be RVC, Edinburgh and Glasgow (as the plan is to travel as much and see the most amount of wildlife possible).

I think I'm considered a European home student and not an international one (but who knows what's going to happen with all this Brexit stuff) so hopefully interviews will be in November and December!

I know, I just can't find it!! Am I right in thinking you had to do an entrance exam for Cambridge? If so how did it go??
I'm doing exactly the same 😂😂😂 I just really want to see if I've got offered any interviews!
Do you know what area of veterinary are you interested in??
Yes we have to do the NSAA (Natural Sciences Admissions Assessment), I’m sitting mine on Halloween (hopefully that’s not an omen! 😂) so with some luck it should go alright. And me too! I’m going with the ‘no news is good news’ approach 😁 I think I want to go into zoological Medicine because I’ve always had a real love of exotic animals, but after starting my current job at a farm in the riding schools I’m starting to consider equine/large animal as I absolutely love working with the horses! I’ve got plenty of time to decide I guess anyway, I’ll see where my interests take me 😁

Yess, I wish you the best with your exam, I'm sure you'll ace it!! I absolutely love exotic animals and would one day like to work as a zoo vet, as well as just work with wild animals and all of that. Though to be honest, I'll be happy working with any animal (except fish, I'm not a big fan).
Unfortunately I'm more of a pessimist and no news is bad news for me 😂😂
Thanks so much! 😁 and me too, I love working with animals so it’s pretty hard to choose a favourite field hahaha. It’s reassuring to hear other people are still waiting for news from unis too, and I’m sure you’ll get good news. 😁 Good luck to us all I say, I think we’ll need it!
Hello hello! 😋 Final year of veterinary vocational school in Croatia, applied for RVC (twice, D100 and D101 so that I have the ability to chose if I manage to land a spot), Bristol, and Surrey. Still haven't filled everything up since syncing the paperwork is a hassle, especially from a country with a completely different education system and protocols. I'll be filling up the rest of the info along with the help of my principal and hopefully it'll all go smoothly. Any other EU/international students here? 😁

I know what you mean! I'm studying in Spain and it is completely different here (they have never heard of personal statement, references or even work experince!!) so it's been a bit of a struggle to get everything in order. I too have applied for rvc (d100), and it's where I think I would most like to get into.

This summer I was fortunate enough to go to the rvc pre vet summer school they organise and it was amazing!!

Aaaaaah, sadly because of not being informed and financial instability I wasn't able to attend :frown: they haven't heard of that here either... Plus a lot of the professors have absolutely no English language skills so all of the translating was done by me, which I hope doesn't portray a problem ahahaha.

Work experience was hellish to obtain due to a variety of different reasons and legal concerns ahahaha. Thankfully I managed to get enough paperwork to be eligible to apply but in reality I have way more, they just can't give me the actual work papers for that... I'm happy that I managed to obtain what I could 😂

The interview also worries me because I have absolutely way to get my arse to London. I'm probably gonna have to contact the embassy and see what I can do from there .-.

It is almost as if you are describing spain!! It was so hard for me to get work experience because here there are laws that don't actually allow it so it was illegal for me to do work experience, but i managed to get more than enough (don't ask me how 😂😂)

Interviews should be fine for me since I'm English and originally come from London but for you I can imagine it might be a bit tricky!!
