Maths help need in topic of completing the squares

I've a question regarding completing the squares.Now how can I complete this expression below using the x2+2ax+a2+b formulae.

I take it the expression is
x^2 + 2ax + a^2 + b
The simple way into completing the squares is to halve the "x" coefficient (call it d) and then the square term is of the form
(x + d)^2 + e
and e is to balance the constant part up.
