What are your opinions on the current state of higher education in art?

After attending a few degree shows (slade, ruskin, goldsmiths) along with recent exhibitions - I can say that there's a great preference for concept

for a lack of better words, gee, veggie what is all this about?

well - a word has been floating around about some BA shows being lower quality than what would be expected of the course.
Those things can be said when looking at the artwork from a standpoint of the good, old, traditional way. but its good to look back and asses which facets of the work we judge.

there were a few pieces that stuck with me personally, because they stood out conceptually, few others had a tongue-in-cheek approach. but i was left with a question

What do these institutions want beyond the criteria listed on the website? what sort of mindset are they looking for?

are basic skills (anatomy, composition, etc.) inherently necessary, or can good artwork be supported by a good concept alone?

is the art world flooded with too much political art? do you think it will be relevant 5 years later?

and finally.

What are your opinions on the current state of higher education in art?

i genuinely want to know what you all think!
