Seriously, I don't get it. I had a guest lecture with a professor from the sociology department and if I had a penny for every time she said 'white male' i'd be a millionaire.

One of our biggest lecture theatres is graffitied with rubbish saying 'love a black woman from infinity to infinity'. why empathize the persons race? who cares if shes black? i ain't gonna love someone because of their frigging race.

school and college was never like this. teachers weren't super politically correct, my maths teacher was actually right-wing and slightly politically incorrect. he was cool as hell. but everyone at uni is whining about gender neutral toilets, safespaces, people are uptight about pronouns and silly snowflake rubbish.

    what happened?

well, people are paying £9,000 a year so they would try their best not to upset people.

i'm in my third year uni now and i've never heard anyone complain of 'gender neutral toilets, safespaces, pronouns and silly snowflake rubbish'. who exactly are you hanging out with?

what was your guest lecturer speaking on when she was mentioning 'white male'? just curious. i'm taking a module on media, democracy and the public sphere and 'white male' is often mentioned because guess who the public sphere was made for for a few hundred years. we also talk about 'white male' in some of my law modules because guess who made law for most of English history.

the artist who sprayed the graffiti probably felt racially discriminated against in the past and was expressing her frustration. it's great that you don't see skin colour but (unfortunately) not everyone thinks like you.

I imagine universities were the same when the fees were lower?

    Everyone? Are you sure?

Sounds like you're either looking for this kind of stuff or you hang out with the people who care for it.

Never once encountered anything like what you're talking about at University.

Universities in general tend to be left leaning.

Left-leaning environments tend to be very racist with a weird control fetish. For example, fighting racism by implementing racial quotas...
When it comes to the "white male", it's the same thing. Jealous and extremely racist left-leaning people see a white guy with cash and to them that means - white is somehow stealing stuff (they never had) so they decide to fight this imaginary racist with a real racism and start forcing in racial quotas.
    It's Marxism all over again.
"White man" cannot be rich because he spent 17 years in fulltime education and works 70h a week for 15 years. It must be racism...

nah i saw something about safe spaces for sex workers in our student union newsletter. didn't bother reading it though.

the pronoun thing was when someone made a big deal about using the term "guys" in lectures because it's not gender neutral.

As someone who you might describe as too PC, I would argue that the reason is because people at university are more educated and the more educated you are the more left wing you are (perhaps up to a certain point). I don't think you should love a woman because of their race and I don't really know what thay graffiti was trying to say really like wtf does that even mean. As for the lecturer saying "white male" it depends on what the lecture was about. He is a sociology lecturer so it is relevant for him to talk about different races because there are social differences between races. A lot of sociology is about race.

IMO it is more to do with age than education. For example, from a sample of 50k voters, age 18-19 voters primarily go for labour but 39% of voters aged 40-49 vote conservative and at about age 50-59 most vote conservative.

Location probably plays a big factor aswell. Scotland is primarily left-wing with few conservative voters.

In hard sciences, law or engineering you rarely meet a left leaning person. Left-leaning people tend to be young, I used to be towards left too, but more adult you get, this goes away. Most of the successful and educated people are straight right. Left seems to dominate only humanities.

As you get older and/or more successful you will turn right. This seems to be the same everywhere

That's a strange perspective. I am 16 (year 12) and I plan on doing physics at uni and I'm quite left leaning but mostly central. Most of the dumbest people I've met have been right wing lol and most of the smartest people have been left leaning but there is the factor that you will always perceive people who agree with you as being smart whether they are or not . I'm not sure as to whether when you say left or right if you mean left as in liberal or left as in socialist. When I say left I'm generally talking about being liberal I.e being acceptance of transgender and gay people as well as other races and cultures. I am probably using the wrong terminology.

Yes perhaps but I would have though that the age thinh would be offset by the fact that lots of people at uni went to private schools and people from well off backgrounds tend to be more right wing
