Yep, English language is like creative writing, transactional writing and comprehension whereas English literature is like novels and poems analysis
Hope that helps

English Literature involves studying certain texts, annotating them in class and remembering key quotes for each character/theme. Apart from the unseen poetry question, you will only get asked questions based on the texts you have studied.
In English Language, half of the exam is creative writing (description/narrative in paper 1 and a non-fiction piece of writing in paper 2). The other half of the marks come from language and structure analysis. This involves annotating texts that you have NOT seen before and writing about them. Paper 1 is fiction texts and paper 2 is non-fiction texts.
