Pages 7 & 8 from https://chemrevise.files.wordpress.c...guide-atom.pdf will explain the successive ionisation energies clearly.

This revision guide is mark-scheme specific so just repeating exactly what the revision guide says (for appropriate questions) should give you all the marks in the exams. I've checked this with past paper questions
